Get an Evo now, or wait and see?

I'm finally giving up on webOS hardware and I'm ready for something like the Evo. Should I just get the Evo now, or wait for the next latest and greatest? I've heard about the Evo Shift, but I like the 4 - 4.3 in screens.

What do you guys think?

Ya if you wait for the next latest and greatest you'll never get a phone lol. If you want to stay with Sprint, grab the Evo. Or you can wait to see what the Evo Shift is all about..

I don't like the looks of the EVO Shift. To the OP, I would get the EVO today. Its probably the beat phone on the market.

A lot of us came from WebOS. Heck, I had mine 1.5yrs until it was falling apart and with Sprint not offering a Pre+ or other updated phone, I gave up. My wife still has her Pixie and I admit I'm a little jealous when she swipes, but my Evo has about 100 things that she wishes she had.
The Pre will feel like a toy in your hand once you go Evo.

I also had a Pre and gave up sooner than you did (last June, shortly after the EVO release). If the EVO suits your needs (large screen, no physical keyboard, Sprint) I'd go for it. It will probably be quite awhile before anything better in this category comes along for Sprint, and there's a lot of living and phone use to do in the meantime. You'll be eligible to upgrade again in a year as a Premier member.

I too came from a Pre to the EVO. It only took me about a week to adjust and since then I havent looked back. I can do so much more with it and the hardware is awesome. My wife uses my Pre now and I agree with the previous poster that said it almost feels like a toy in your hand after using the EVO!

by the time the Shift comes out--there'll be some other phone that is rumored or leaked and then you'll be in the same boat.
if the Shift does come out soon--you can still, i hate to say this, sell the Evo on craigslist or eBay and get a pretty hefty payday for it and put that $ towards your next phone.

The Shift is not the new Evo most of us will be buying to replace the ones we have. That one isn't even seen yet. We'll probably see it at CES, but not before.

the shift has not even been announced yet, but I know where your coming from.
I got my epic day 1 right away. And its the best choice I ever made.

If you want a keyboard get the epic or shift - keep in mind that the shift is their take on the Droid and g2 for sprint.
The epic to me sounds a lot better.

But if you don't want a keyboard and want a huge dev community then get the evo.

I've played with the evo but I think I like my epic more. either way you can't go Wrong with these tier 1 phones it comes down to preference. But honestly you'll just say "maybe I should've gone with the other phone" these two are the bst phones available

Thanks for all the input. You guys are definitely right about never having a nice phone if you keep waiting for the latest and greatest. That's why I have been waiting 5 months and still have an old phone.

I wanted to see what Palm came up with. I'm sure they will come out with something better than the Pre2, but I bet it will be too little, too late.

I don't see Sprint releasing an Evo "replacement" for quite awhile. They would fill the other niche's first.

As soon as I sell my iPod touch, Evo here I come!

Get an EVO now the prices couldn't be better for such a great device and I bereaved it will hold its resale value for a while. Plus EVO is still on the top of the pile hardware wise I think its going to be at least another year before we see measurable changes in that area.

Yeah I agree. The EVO is now about 5 months old and nothing has been released to beat it. That is pretty amazing with the way OEM's are spitting out phones. The EVO was way ahead of its time and will still be current for another year or perhaps even longer. Plus it is on the best network and from the best hardware manufacturer (we always get the dessert first).

Evo (but refuse to pay more than $99)
New 4" or bigger HP smartphone?
4" or bigger WP7?

I'm hoping my pre can make it until one of the above happens.

Well its over for me. I just got my Evo. Typing this on it right now. So far I am really excited.

Looking forward to truly joining the community.

I'm in the same boat. My renewal is up and I'm itching to pull the trigger on new hardware. The rumors about a new HP Palm beyond the Pre2, as well as the HTC 7 Pro with WP7, and the Evo Shift 4G have me thinking I'd better wait a bit more.
My sister just got an Evo and while it's obviously a terrific phone, it seems like the screen is kinda grainy. Is it me? The Epic doesn't appeal to me since I don't like feel of Sammy hardware or their UI. HTC's virtual KB is so much better than anyone else that the Evo is about the only non-qwerty I would want.

The thing that concerns me most is battery life using Evo during a lot of business travel. If you have to shut off all of the fun features to get through most of a day making a lot of calls, heavy email and texting, then what's the point of getting it? I have enough of a problem watching my battery level now, so I'd like to improve that on my next phone.

I wish someone was dumping more money into mobile battery technology.
