Get Phone to use same number format as Contacts

Hi, I'm setting up my first Android phone this week and I have my first question that I haven't been able to find an answer to. I have an HTC One mini running Android 4.2.2 with the HTC Sense 5.0 overlay on the AT&T network.

In the default Phonebook app there are 5 panels: Call History, Phone, Favorites, Contacts, & Groups. I have my numbers setup in Contacts in the (xxx) xxx-xxxx format, but in the Call History and Phone panels (and I assume the Favorites panel, if I had favorites stored yet), the phone numbers appear in the xxxxxxxxxx format, which I absolutely can't stand. I find it very difficult to read and an unfriendly way of displaying phone numbers.

Is there a way to modify this using the default app? If not, is there a replacement phone app that works in much the same way and is known to be stable with a light footprint?

Thanks!

I can't answer about the default app as my two devices run AOSP dialers and contacts which are set up the way you prefer. I would look at apps I Play.

Golfdriver97, thank you for your reply. I found a few phone apps on Google Play, but none of them seemed to be what I'm looking for. I'm assuming I would need to root, or at least significantly overhaul my system, to take advantage of the AOSP dialers you mention? I'm looking for something simple for a beginner, so if it's going to be a lot of hassle, I think it'd be over my head at this time.

You are correct that you would need to root and flash an AOSP ROM, like CyanogenMod. I am not familiar with rooting HTC devices, and rooting is not for the faint of heart.

I was hoping editing the phone number format display would be as easy as editing an XML file or something like that or going to some hidden, advanced settings menu. It appears that is not the case and I'll just have to live with the xxxxxxxxxx format until an Android update fixes it or someone comes up with a better Phone app, correct?
