By memory, do you mean storage (I think the new one has 16 GB) or RAM (I think it has 4 GB)?

Storage: It has an SD card slot, which is more than you can say for a Nexus 7, for better or worse. You could also use a flash drive (pretty sure it supports it) or an external hard drive (this one I'm not so sure about).

RAM: I doubt it, but I'm not gonna rule it out. As far as my Lenovo Ultrabook goes, Lenovo told me that more RAM wouldn't physically fit. (I don't know how accurate that is, but I'm content to remain ignorant for the duration of my 2-year warranty that I paid good money for and will certainly use to fix a dent in it.) But why would you need more than 4 GB of RAM?

As far as rooting/flashing phones (or anything dev-related), not from Chrome OS. It's designed for everyday use, not hard-core stuff like that. If you're into rooting/flashing your phone, you won't want to make this your only computer. I recommend keeping around something running Windows, Linux, or both.

(Nice phone, btw. Don't give up on Network Vision.)

As a current owner of the Series 5 550, the older more expensive higher spec model.

You can not add more ram because it is soldered to the mother board, you would have to get a 550 if you want more ram.

You can use flash drives and external hard drives.

What do you expect for a device that's almost half the price of the 5 550.
