Hi Folks,

Sorry if this is duplicate post! Looked around but didn't see the subject ...

I've now had this happen a couple of times with my Tbolt. When I come home from work, because of HORRIBLE signal strength in my area, I go WiFi right away, and stay there until the following morning. I leave the phone on while charging overnight, and everything's fine with WiFi.

In the morning on my way out the door I flip off the WiFi widget. Almost all the time a feeble 3G signal arrives, and shows on the display.

But a handful of times in the last month 3G doesn't show up after turning WiFi off. I wait and wait - nothing. I use the Quick Settings widget on my home screen, and it says "Mobile Data" is "connecting ..." but it never does. I could drive all the way to work, with 4 bar signal strength the whole way, and the 3G indicator and arrows never show. I use the phones "Mobile" widget - turn it off and on (it's always left in the "on" state) - still nothing. I have to restart the phone to get 3G data back.

Anybody have this happening, or know what's up? How do I force on the data signal besides restarting?

Thanks in advance!

I am having the same issue but with 4G. Well the issue is with actually connecting to either. I have to restart to get the internet back.

You could try not turning wifi off and just leaving the house. When you are out of the vicinity it will switch on its own. I doubt this will help but worth a try.

Other suggestion is to enter airplane mode for a second then take it back off. Faster than a reboot and is a total signal refresh.

I will try both, thanks Gman! But won't leaving WiFi turned on make the phone constantly search for a WiFi signal and start robbing me of battery power?

Do you, or does anybody else, know how the "modem" can be turned off an back on?

Do you know if coming out of airplane mode does a data re-sync in addition to a total signal refresh?

I'm getting the exact same problem when leaving WiFi and 3g never comes back on. I usually leave the WiFi on all the time so when I return home, I'm instantly connected. (I don't notice much of a battery drain having WiFi off or on)

I have tried switching to airplane mode but the phone keeps saying ......searching for network. After I reset, only then the phone goes into Airplane mode. Lately I've been leaving WiFi off and just using 3g only to avoid any issues.

I'd like to get this resolved as WiFi really extends my battery life.

I found the opposite with wifi. I need to use it, but it kills my battery.
I've had the airplane mode trick work for me here ....

Ok, update. Had it happen again this morning. Not good. I went into airplane mode via the settings menu. Nothing happened. No airplane icon on the notification bar. I went back into settings and saw the airplane mode checkbox cleared. Like I never touched it. Hello?

Went and checked it again. Back to the home screen and still no icon. WTH! I go back into settings and its not checked off!

It took a phone reboot to have any effect whatsoever, and then it booted ... into airplane mode. Of course when I turned airplane mode off it found 3G no problem.

Either way, this is a very real issue.
