Getting discouraged with Kitkat

This probably won't help with the battery issues, but I thought I'd post something for people who might be reading this post because they are having trouble with some apps bogging down their phone.

I've was having a major lag with my texting - the letters I typed wouldn't show up for a couple minutes if at all. Sometimes, I wasn't able to swipe the screen to wake up the phone. That was a big problem At any rate, I cleared the cache on my messaging app and Nova launcher. Those problems seem to have gone away. Time will tell as to whether that's a permanent fix. If it's not, I'll break down and do a factory reset.

I'm not too pleased with this Kitkat update. My phone was perfectly fine without it.
Clearing cache does help for some things and people do it regularly anyway in Recovery mode. That was a strong example if it did actually cure the bad keyboard and unlock problems.
Doing a reset, now that I've done it, is not too bad, though it can be aggravating the 1st time. I would turn all the Samsung sync options on beforehand, as that's the 1st thing the phone will ask to sync from after a fresh start up. Also back up to Kies on a pc, but it doesn't restore everything. I didn't sync too much to Google, but it helps with apps etc. I drag copies of my photos, music and documents from a pc. Something like Dropbox or Google drive is good. I had forgot I was linked to Dropbox and it restored some photos and screenshots for me.
More experienced people recommend Helium Back-Up. I had to restore a lot of apps manually. There are many ways to try a reset, but you can lose things if you are unaware.

Has anyone else found KitKat to be a memory hog. Before update my memory use was always under 120 megs now it stays around 140 megs.

Yes! I posted in another thread but i was basically blown off....so I'm watching my phone closely to see if it's something I'm doing or an app I'm using

I apologise if I worded my response in the other thread incorrectly.
Here is @Golfdriver97's helpful reference thread on ram usage, and also the responses to my thread.
I am not very savvy on this stuff still.
The settings still allow you to clear ram, but someone said this a legacy of much older Android versions. Usable RAM increased a little to 2.71 gb with KK.

I hope you can figure the Facebook issue.

I don't know if you worded your response incorrectly but when I suggested that I had abnormally high memory usage and that it bogged down my phone you quickly discredited that idea saying that it's doesnt...either way I'm no expert but your response, although it didnt make sesne to me, seemed as if it was an educated answer...I'm convinced it's a recently updated group of apps causing the high memory usage probably the new bloatware vzw added or something else... I'm still testing different apps to see if there is a change

I read in the linked thread above that Google drive was causing some significant battery drain so I disabled mine and the memory usage has also improved as well as my battery life....

Here's how much I don't love Google.
For Disabled read Turned Off on Verizon.
Many find a big difference also turning off Google +, if you don't use it. Only downside for me is I cannot review apps anymore on the Play Store as it now requires your Google + account.
