Getting discouraged with Kitkat

We may all follow you over to Crackberry.
You never know what tomorrow brings.
A tout a l'heure.

Did you try a full reset after the update? I live in San Jose and I get great coverage with KK on my Note 3. A full charge lasts me over 2 days.

I did the full reset, I took out the battery (per advice from Samsung), nothing worked. And now Google is prompting me every 5 minutes for permission for Picasa (on each of my email accounts) to access my gallery??? HELL, NO. So I'm backing up everything and moving my pics to my computer before deleting everything. Until I get my Blackberry in the mail (it should be here tomorrow) my Note 3 is only good for making calls... and dropping them.

I had the same thing and was determined not to give Google my photos or anything.
I got help! You can stop it doing that and use it as you did.
I had a Google sync error for a day after KitKat, but if you don't : General - Accounts - Google - tap account - untick Picasa Web Folders sync, and most everything else as I did, and it will settle down. BUT you won't get the Google sync tick-boxes unless master Sync is on.

Picasa or mi casa ? - Android Forums at AndroidCentral.com

Ok this is weird: I have nothing that says Picasa in my Google settings, it's under "PEOPLE" and it only says Picasa when the box is checked... which I had made sure it was unchecked on all my accounts when I first set up my phone. I found them all checked just now, unchecked them and now it says "people".

I don't know what's happening there.
Google reset everything in their favour when you come out of KitKat. Hoping we won't notice and carry on. Didn't matter what your settings were before. I don't know why that wasn't made common knowledge, I tried my best!
There has been confusion where some people have Google Photos instead or along with Picasa so it varies. See jpr's helpful post.

I am fairly sure I didn't have Picasa before KitKat, but this is how it appears below.
May depend on your Google+ choice maybe, I forget your choice.

I couldn't open Gallery on mine at first without agreeing to Picasa, which I refused, but it was finally sorted.

I'm sure you don't want more aggravation so you will probably leave it.
I will try to ask jpr or someone anyway.
It's still possible you can get your N3 running smoothly if you don't have to give it back.

Evilguppy did you know that Samsung and LG updates comes with certain tricks or software which makes fail certain devices for make that the user get the latest galaxy flagship phone? Sounds this weird but is true my brother works in a customs broker enterprise where Samsung and LG too does their paperwork for import their phones and according with Samsung people they launch defectives upgrades weeks before the latest galaxy phone come to market for make their phones fail and people get a new one.

I didn't know that till one day my brother did a comment about it.

best regards
Francisco

I turned off google+ because it's a battery hog, and I always make sure that Picasa is unchecked but what Google is doing does not surprise me in the least. I just set up a yahoo account, I was never too fond of yahoo but I'm desperate, lol. Now I need to move all my contacts, and hen I have updated all the things I use my email account for with my new yahoo account, I'll ditch google. The thing is... does anyone know if it's even possible to operate an android device (like my note pro for example) without a Gmail account?
Because if I absolutely need to have one, I'd rather sell it and switch to a non google product altogether.
I will not be controlled by Google or anyone else.

I keep a Gmail for Android stuff only. I check by putting sync on twice a week.
Yahoo has been my personal / work mail address for 12 years, and the app gets push mail without sync on.
Someone posted recently you don't need Gmail.

AAARRRGGGHH!!!!!!!

I set up a yahoo account. started to delete all my gmail accounts. I am prompted for a back up account, I say "ok". And the only choice I have to set one up is with freaking Google. *headdesk*

@evilguppy, I would just have a Gmail account linked to your phone just for the Android stuff and not use it for mail etc. The Gmail account that your phone has been using keeps track of your apps and purchased apps. Now if you use amazon for all of your apps, then amazon stores that info in your Amazon account. If you use amazon and not play, then I would just have an empty Gmail account the phone is linked to and you should be good to go.

Yes, that's what I need to do. I hate Google for the way they try to control everything and everyone. Apple is the same way. I wouldn't mind as much if they respected my privacy but they have to try and invade everything. My next tablet will be a BB Playbook, to hell with Google.

How's it looking. Still giving it a try? Maybe your just de- Googling your tablet. :)

[With the Note 3, I would have done a reset at your stage if you have a Blackberry to work with. I did a 1st reset last week along with Jalopiejoe, so some tips available, and I will find it easier next time.]
**Oops, you have done **

The only thing I hate with Yahoo btw, and it may only apply to me, is when I reply to or forward an email on the phone app it doesn't include the original most of the time.

I had battery trouble after the Kit Kat update and it turned out to be the GPS constantly reading every 10 seconds or so. I had the "location tag" checked in my S Notes settings. After I unchecked that setting my Android system battery use went down and my battery life is excellent again.
It took a few days to pinpoint the problem. I hope this helps someone else.

My GPS and location services were off.

So I got my BlackBerry in the mail and its really a cool device. Very smooth and fast. The problem is I haven't used blackberry since 2008 and it has changed a lot!!
So I'm in another learning urge here, lol.
But I'm not giving up because I am really fed up with Android right now.
Still love my Note Pro but if they screw it up with some moronic update, I'm done.

Well, enjoy the Blackberry. I liked the readability of the screen in stores.
I would think these days you would need a tablet to go along with that, so you have that covered.

I wonder if I could get a deal on one when my contract ends soon. They must be giving them away. :)

ON EDIT: You said you had done a reset of course, I forgot.

I gotta say... I may have my work cut out for me with respect to learning the OS and figuring out the device in general (I feel like I'm swimming in the dark, lol) but I can type fast on that thing, whoa!!! I'm flying across the keyboard with no typos ever. I missed that. :) On virtual keyboards I'm always slow because I need to correct, back up, reread etc. This keyboard is really cool.

That's mainly why I wantwd (see) to try a Q10. I hated typing on my small Galaxy S2. I am better on the Note 3 but it is still infuriating. I have to rely on hitting the back key and my word predictions a lot.
The art of ergonomic design has gone out the window with glass screens.
(I really want my Sony Ericsson back.)
I guess there will be tutorials on Crackberry or somewhere.

I live in a major city in the south bay, in California, 4G signal is very strong everywhere I go. In fact it was never a problem until Kitkat. I'm irritated to no end because I really felt that I had finally found the right phone when I got my Note 3 in December.
I was perfect on Jellybean.
I cannot work with this phone as it is.
I just tried emailing a bunch of work related photos and this time I turned on wifi, and sure enough, it won't send.

Had similar problems with my S5 and kitkat update. My tolerance for it is sooooo low. Really disappointed :(

Update: my phone went from 100% to 18% battery in 45 minutes. I'm done. I don't care what ancient stone age tin can I end up with, it can't be nearly as bad as this.

OMFG 45 minutes?! Might as well not even take your phone with you if it's just going to die! >:( Surely they need to try to fix this!!

This probably won't help with the battery issues, but I thought I'd post something for people who might be reading this post because they are having trouble with some apps bogging down their phone.

I've was having a major lag with my texting - the letters I typed wouldn't show up for a couple minutes if at all. Sometimes, I wasn't able to swipe the screen to wake up the phone. That was a big problem At any rate, I cleared the cache on my messaging app and Nova launcher. Those problems seem to have gone away. Time will tell as to whether that's a permanent fix. If it's not, I'll break down and do a factory reset.

I'm not too pleased with this Kitkat update. My phone was perfectly fine without it.
