I am getting sick of going to the Verizon store every couple days. The froyo upgrade nuked my x, stuck at bootloader. The tech was even confused. They sent me a new (refurb) but the handset speaker was staticy. I got my second refurb a couple days ago, and there are what looks like scratches under the glass. Its like the screen itsself is damaged. The are sending me another one on monday.

Anyone else have such horrible luck with these phones? I love the phone, but this issue, coupeled with my dislike of motorolas policies about locking down android devices has me thinking I want to jump ship. Do you think that if the next phone is bad and I complain a lot they will send me a fascinate? I hate touchwiz but launcherpro will fix that. Anyone have any luck getting a different devise after a string of bad ones?

Im getting sick of setting up a new phone every couple of days.

Yup, after 5 months and 5 Dinc's, they let me switch.
Gave ma a choice if a droid 2 or the X, I took the X

Story of my life, bro. Seriously. I was in Verizon every couple days for awhile this summer, too. First Droid lasted me a month, then had a hardware failure. Got 2 refurbs in a row who had hardware failures. 4th Droid was the one that got fried with the 2.2 update, then went through 2 more before getting a D2 which was ready to fry within 10 days, which brought me to September 10th when I traded it for the Fascinate.

Yes. I am living proof that eventually, they do surrender and let you get whatever phone you want. I had horrendous luck with Motorola and when my D2 fried up I was practically in tears when I went into the store, saying I never wanted a Motorola again. Because the D2 was within 30 days, he said for a small fee I could get whatever phone in the store I wanted, so I went with this. Have had it since 9/10, have had no problems or battery pulls or ANYTHING yet.

I seriously don't get it. I mean sure all of us have an occasional lock up or restart, but for people like you guys to go through that many phones? Not trying to be a jerk, but did you ever consider maybe it was something YOU were doing wrong? I see so many people, not techy, average people who love the DX and use it as much as the majority of us here do.

I don't know what happened to my first x. I had flashed the leaked 2.2 then back to 2.1. When I installed the official 2.2 it locked on the bootloader. I thought it had efused or something until the Verizon tech flashed oem 2.1 back on it and it locked up on 2.2 right there in the store. My other 2 phones have had hardware problems because they were refurbished. It seems that verizons refurb quality control isn't that great, which is my main issue. I paid for a brand new, fully functional phone. I will not settle for any less, despite verizons attempts to pawn off damaged hardware back onto me. If it's refurbished, that means someone had a problem with it in the first place, why would I want that piece of hardware that has already been returned.

Some people just get unlucky, man. I'm not an idiot. It wasn't me.

& like the OP said - I had FOUR refurbished phones. Most lasted a day or two. It wasn't because I screwed anything up. Refurbs suck. The new Droid I got after the string of four refurbs broke because of the 2.2 update, if I remember right.

Come to think of it I think you're right. When I had the storm I went through 3 replacements. But then again it was the storm lol.

A home replacement killed my first Droid. The very first phone breaking WAS my fault. The four refurbs broke because they were refurbs. The second new Droid broke because of 2.2. I have no idea why my D2 sucked so bad.

Well I was just over at the fascinate forum and I have to say, it made me nervous. Its a nice phone bit seems like there are some deal breakers. Notably a gps issue. I dont use nav often, but when I do its because im crazy lost and don't want to risk not getting gps. Also there is bing. I know theres ways around it, but that's a big hassle.

Well, here's to hoping this next x will be in good condition so I dont have to face this choice.

I haven't had one problem with my X, even after the 2.2 update.

I wouldn't worry too much about the gps issues on the fascinate. It is a pretty darn good phone. What I would consider if u are thinking about it is, mainly the screen size but also know that the droid x will perform better battery wise even with the stock battery. I do believe in having a solid build quality phone as well, and one of the few gripes about the samsung is it feels cheap.

I hate Verizon

For some reason Verizon is getting really annoying.

I upgrade to 2.2 froyo for my Droid X and it has been a living hell ever since.

Update does not let non brand batteries to be charged in phone. The Factory reset won't work i contacted motorola and they said the same thing.

At least the battery will still power the phone. Annoyed that the battery indicator shows a question mark.

You have 2 choices.
1. Return the battery and get a refund
2. Buy a charger.

I have 2 chargers one for work and home.
Clip Charger: Charges all types of batteries so when you upgrade you are good to go.

Cradle Dock: Nice to sit your phone on a dock station and listen to music.

My wife has a Fascinate guess what non brand batteries don't work on that phone either. If they are going to build power hungry phones they should allow other brand batteries to charge in the phone.

I also purchased a Cradle Dock for this phone.

Officially moving to AT&T I'm tired of this BS after contract is ended.

While the Facinate screen is vibrant for pics and graphics, I found the text to be far more difficult to read than the DX. Deal breaker

The bad thing about replacements is that you are getting a refurbished phone. You are literally getting someone else's problems.

Maybe the single best feature of the Palm Pre is that anyone can run the webOS Doctor and fully restore the phone back to full factory settings. Short of dropping it down the stairs there is no way to brick a Pre because of this.

The sad part is that when you return a bricked Droid they just do the same full wipe and restore Pre owners can do themselves.

There is an old army joke. The sergeant comes in and says I have good news and bad news. The good news is you all get a change of underwear. The bad news is it you are going to change with each other.

That's what a refurbished phone is.

I went through 4 refurbished Droids, all which broke within a day or two, before they FINALLY let me have a new phone again. When they gave me that first refurbished phone, I knew it was going to be a POS, and Verizon tried to convince me it was perfectly fine. Refurbs are NEVER fine.

I wish I could factory restore mine. Would've saved me many trips to Verizon. Thankfully, my Samsung has outlasted all of my Motorolas (except my first Droid) and haven't needed to restore yet. Hopefully I'll never have to!

What do you mean "factory reset doesn't work"? It works great.

What good is moving to AT&T? Same problems plus new ones. I used to be with AT&T, they suck.

Had mine since Aug 18th and not a problem. Im still even getting City ID for free. It asks if I want to buy but i still keep clicking continue free trial.
