What's going on with battery life nowadays?

I've had alot of phones these last couple of years. Mostly midrange and flagships. I've noticed with Xiaomi 15T pro and Pixel 10 pro that the battery life is sick.

I'm at like 40-50% left in the evening after 6-8 hours of SoT.

Both of them running VERY cool for me. Compared to all iPhones i've had.

I quite like the Xiaomi 15T pro. Nice cameras and I dont mind the UI. Not as nice as Samsung though.

Sorry just abit of a ramble but I'm impressed.

I can tell a difference in my S26 Ultra vs the S22 Ultra I came from. The S22 would maybe last about half a day with normal use but so far the S26 ultra is lasting all day.

Manufacturers are cramming more battery capacity now. The latest Oneplus has a significantly large batteries; alongside a host of other phones with Si/C batteries. Sadly, my mid-range phone still has 4900mAh battery only; so battery anxiety is still a real thing for me.

You’re not imagining it battery life really does feel like it’s taken a weird turn lately.

On paper, phones are “more efficient” than ever, but in real use a lot of people are seeing the opposite. I think a big part of it is just how much heavier everything has gotten. Higher refresh rate screens, constant background syncing, always-on location, push notifications every few seconds… it all adds up way faster than most of us realize.

From what I’ve seen, it’s less that batteries got worse overnight and more that our usage quietly changed. Even simple stuff like camera apps, social media, and messaging apps are way more resource-hungry than they used to be, and they rarely fully “sleep” in the background anymore.

I’ve also noticed updates sometimes make older devices feel like they’re draining faster, even when nothing obvious changes day to day. Could be optimization trade-offs, could be battery aging lining up with software getting heavier it’s usually a mix of both.

What’s funny is we’ve gotten used to doing way more on our phones, so a “good” battery day now might be what used to feel like a bad one years ago.

Are you noticing it on a specific device, or just across everything you’ve used recently?
