I have read tons of articles and threads about rooting and flashing roms over the years, but most of it gets lost in translation. So I want to make sure I'm heading down the right path before I begin. My Verizon note 3 has the NC4 OTA update, which is what finally pushed me to root. My signal and battery have been horrible since the update. I just rooted my phone using towel root. Now I want to install a custom rom. I'm considering jasmine rom.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the first thing I need to do after rooting is install Safestrap and busybox. I have read that there is a Safestrap version for the nc4 firmware, but it needs busybox to work properly. Then in Safestrap, I need to install a recovery. This makes a copy of how my phone is when stock, right? Then I'm ready to install a custom rom in one of the rom slots, correct? If I'm missing anything, please let me know.

Take a look through this thread on XDA: [RECOVERY LOCKED/MJ7,MJE,NC2,NC4] Safestrap … | Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 3 | XDA Forums

According to the thread, you can install safestrap if you are on NC4, but do not have the NC4 bootloader that would have been installed via the OTA. Take a look through the last few pages and see if you can get it running on your device. Also, before attempting to install anything make sure you read up on the process and have a plan B just in case things go bad - using Odin to reinstall the factory firmware will be what you need to get back up and running. Make sure you have that file on hand and Odin running just in case - check that XDA forum for the necessary files.

Once you are able to get it running, you'll be able to boot into recovery and perform a "nandroid" or backup of the device. That's make a mirror image of the device just as it was at that time. ROMs are placed on the sd card root directory and flashed via the recovery after wiping system/data/cache. Most ROM Developers will include quick instructions if different for users to follow.

Let us know how it goes and how installing safestrap works out for you.

The nandroid backup is what safestrap will do, correct?
