Ghost touches on incoming calls

Am I the only one having this problem?

It has happened twice now and (pretty certain about this) both times I received a call while my Pixel 2 XL was in my front pocket with screen against my leg (if it matters). I took the phone out of my pocket and was unable to swipe up to answer - there was some of the expected movement of the answer icon, but then it popped back to its original position. Swiping down did the same.

Next, the phone starts going crazy as though it is registering hundreds of ghost touches; apps open and then another opens above, and on and on. The only way to break the cycle is to hold the power button for several seconds and then tap the Restart option.

I have tried duplicating the issue by putting the phone in my pocket and then calling myself from another phone, but no luck.

I normally have AOD enabled - don't know if that matters but I have now turned it off just in case.
