Okay.. I'm going to lead into this and tell you this is for more advanced root users. It's very simple, but I simply mean simple in my eyes (albeit it took me several hours to figure out and get this working). I want to lead in and say that you should make a backup in cwm before doing any of this.
What you gain lol...
Gingerbread "Screen Off" Animation - YouTube
What you need:
Root Explorer or Rom Toolbox (Free) or ES File Explorer (with root browser and write enabled)
APK Manager from APK Multi-Toolkits | APK Multi-Tool
Notepad++
7-zip
(I'm going to walk you through how I did it to make it the easiest.)
*I did this on an Optimus Q. I suspect it would work on a vm slider, but I cant be positive of it*
Once you have all of the stuff above. I suggest you make a flashable theme in UOT. Or grab one that you've used previously and use it for this. Or you'll have to adb push everything which I really don't feel like explaining how to adb cause this is already going to be long. Unzip your flashable theme somewhere...
Okay, so take the framework-res.apk from your flashable theme and (after unzipping the apk manager to a folder) paste it in the folder that is titled place-apk-here-for-modding or something to that effect. Go back to the APK Managers root folder (whatever:\APK_Manager\) and find the file script.bat. Double click that (it may take a second to start up). It opens a command prompt and it will take a second to load but when it does you'll have a bunch of options. You want to hit 9 to decompile the framework-res.apk.
When it finishes go to \APK_Manger\projects\framework-res.apk\res\values.
Open up the file called bools.xml in Notepad++ (Right click and open with Notepad++)
Look for a line that says "true"
Change true in that line to false so it should read
"false"
Now either go to File SAVE not save as or just hit ctrl+s. Close the notepad++ window.
Go back to the apkmanager script.bat. Open it, or if you still have it open you want to type 11 (Compile the apk). Let that run you'll be asked for a yes/no response three times (i believe) type y each time. At the end of its initial run it will prompt you that theres a new folder in the apk manager directory called 'keep'. Before you hit enter to finish the process... go to that 'keep' folder and find a file called resource.arsc. Delete that file. Go back to the apk manager and hit enter. It will start copying a bunch of files and it will be done. Close the script.bat window when it finishes.
Navigate to that folder that you put your framework-res.apk in initially and you'll see a new unsigned .apk. Open it in 7-zip and pull out the resource.arsc file inside of it (drag and drop it like on your desktop...do not unarchive/unzip). Using 7-zip open your framework-res.apk that you initially used for this mod (from your flashable .zip) and delete the old resource.arsc file thats in it...and drag and drop your new one in. Rezip the flashable .zip you had initially and flash it.
Boot up and now you're going to need to use Rom Manager or Root Explorer or ES to find the build.prop file in your /system directory. Open the build.prop file with a text editor from Rom Toolbox or Root Explorer and find a line that says debug.sf.hw=1 and put a # sign in front (you're commenting it out) so that it looks like #debug.sf.hw=1 . Save the build.prop. Reboot your phone...
Now make sure you have all animations on in the display section of settings when your phone boots back up... and go ahead and try out hitting the screen lock/power button...
This took me forever to get right and figured out but no one gave complete directions. Mine may be hard to follow but if you're able to follow this you can have this animation...
