LOL okay i know it is VERY early to even be mentioning gingerbread but hell when i read this... Details spilled on Android 3.0 “Gingerbread” | The Cellular Guru ... my eyes just locked on "1280 x 760 resolution available for devices with screens that are 4″ or larger"

makes me want to say "Take that Apple" you and that retina screen!!!

but with all seriousness despite being excited for froyo, this looks exciting too. opinions?

haha ditto Terpitude..... I may be finally getting an android phone on the 15th but I think I will focus on the current upgrade coming first!!!

On a side note I do think android will definitely put a damper on the iphone throne!!!

Is gingerbread even 3.0? I would think it would be 2.3 since that's the theme they seem to be following...

well in the article it is labeled as 3.0. I'm assuming they are doing so because apparently its going to have some sort of UI that will launch with ALL 3.0 loads. Of course thats just what the article said.

"1280 x 760 resolution available for devices with screens that are 4″ or larger"

assuming the hardware will support it.

ie: windows can display 1900x1080 no problem, but not on that old 15" 1024x768 LCD panel.

well looking at all the requirements that were listed in the article, the Droid X and HTC Evo 4g fit the bill for gingerbread and the increased resolution.

edit: oops my mistake, i guess you could never know for sure until a full list is released. but hell a guy can hope.

jesus...i don't know how to be more clear here.

look ahead and hope all you like...the x will run 3.0, sure. no worries. however, the OS cannot magically turn an 854x480 LCD panel into anything higher. the x will always and forever be limited to 854x480. period. there ain't no mo' pixels.

do you understand LCD display technology?

I was thinking the same thing. The display resolution is physically limited to 854x480 and there is no way you can squeeze the extra pixels on it even if GBread supports it. Look folks, the X isn't even up for sale yet and FroYo won't be available for it until August and the next iteration in AndroidOS is being anxiously talked about already?!

... don't jump ahead too far just yet...

no I'm sorry thats why i put the edit of my mistake. I understand it will run gingerbread, just not the resolution.

I noticed that the DRoid X and all other currently available smartphones are at the bare minimum for running Gingerbread. For example, the bare minimum processor speed for Gingerbread is 1GHz according to the leaked info yesterday. That doesn't bode well for the long term viability of phones like the Droid X or the upcoming Droid 2 or the Samsung Galaxy (and its twins.)

Yeah i was wondering how that resolution was going to happen LOL Glad someone actually read the article cause I did not. Like I said I am still focusing on my first android phone(the X) and it's next update the froyo!!! LOL

the way I figure, after 7/15 I'm going to have a phone that is pretty cutting edge and knowing that it will be an antique in less than a year. That's okay though because it's a damn sight better than the BlackBerry I'm using now. If I can run the next major upgrade when it drops sometime next year that would be brilliant but the fact that it will be running 2.2 in August is even more encouraging to me. I am in agony right now, counting down the days.
