Gingerbread is here!

My phone is still saying "up to date" with 2.2.2 - I guess I should be thrilled. Heh. I like Gingerbread and all, but I don't want the problems associated with it. Although I generally luck out with OTA updates working as intended, this one I'm a bit weary about.

Ok so we gotta wait for them to fix the USB connectivity.....Acks! I shouldn't have done the freaking update but oh, well.....at least I can make receive and make calls....

Outside of the pissy reception that we get from Sprint, I've never been so disappointed. I know that with updates, there is bound to be some hiccups and bugs...but this is could have been prevented. Sure, many of us were begging for the 2.3 update (I know I was), but now that I have it all it's done is bring issues to a perfectly stable phone (for the most part). I hope LG and Sprint are working together to fix these issues, quick, fast, and in a hurry!

For anyone having this issue with the usb not reading via computer, install this .exe from the zip below and that will fix the issue, i just got my usb to finally charge and work again! Just make sure to not the usb --plugged in before you install the .exe from the zip file. When the .exe is done installing plug in and it should work again!

mine doesnt work, using that link, and putting that exe file on my computer. Should I go to the sprint store and have it looked at? I cannot use the usb at all to connect

thanks

Hey, guess what I woke up to this morning:

* My wifi had totally just stopped working (no error messages this time)

* I couldn't update my profile OR PRL

I was like, "You've got to me be kidding me...". Seriously, when I think the issues have been magically resolved everything just starts going bad again.

anyone have a link to the GB dictionary that can be installed to fix that issue? Losing the predictive text is killing me.

On a semi-related note did those running an all-stock system who have recently updated to 2.3 see a decrease in phone memory after the upgrade? If so by how much?

I have not updated yet but started getting my notifications today. Needless to say I am reluctant to upgrade not only based on all of the comments in this thread but how much on-board memory I might lose. I am running 39mb free now on the phone and try not to dip much below that.

When my family got its updates (all 4 optimus's) we all updated and haven't had any problems, we don't use the stock keyboard so that is a non issue for us but we have random chargers throughout the house and none of our phones are having charging issues, I installed the LG tool on my computer last night and that is working. I did GAIN a bit of space out of the update. I know that it sounds like our 4 phones are in the minority that work fine after the update though. But I am enjoying the update and increased speed.

I was at 43 meg free before the update and 52 after the update. I did take some things off anticipating the update but after it was done I put all of it back on. Not sure if everyone has that gain or not.

I'm a relative noob so please excuse my basic questions. I got my first smarphone (lg optimus s) just 2 weeks ago so with this upgrade there's a lot going on at once. As of now, I've declined the upgrade until I hear some better reviews about it and get a better understanding.

1) Will this upgrade erase all of our apps so we then have to re-install them?
2) WIll this "force roam" app still work for gingerbread?: http://forums.androidcentral.com/sp...pp-roam-control-optimus-no-root-required.html
3) I have (obviously) never rooted a phone before but can this new version currently be rooted?
4) specifically for paid apps like PDA net - will these apps need to be paid for a second time after upgrading?

Thanks for your help!!!

1) it won't erase all your apps. Theoretically it should work with your existing apps. If it doesn't, it still won't erase them, but you'll probably get some strange behavior and force closes, at which point, you'll end up going in and erasing them via factory reset
2) the underlying mechanism is there so probably
3) yes, but only if you follow the specific procedure in the rooting ZVH post in my signature
4) no, even if they are removed by factory reset, they should re-download once you attach google login/market to the phone.

Be Patient - I installed the upgrade to GB yesterday and there were some hiccups at first. I turned the phone off and then back on and that seemed to clear up most issues. I just tried launching apps, music and video from my SD card and they all work fine.

Also connected to my laptop (Win7) using Easy Tether via usb and it worked flawlessly. I'll be buying the Easy-Tether $9.99 soon since I need to work on https sites. Just tested on my desktop pc again via usb and no problems on the 2nd attempt. Got all data off the SD card and now I'll reformat the SD card because I still get the dreaded - 'unmount sd card' error too often. Running Windows XP there... I know, I know it's an old OS but it works.

Will have to reinstall some apps after I format the SD card, but the phone is significantly more responsive and faster. Battery usage is better and seems like 10mb of internal memory is now free. Using 92mb with 301mb free.

TIP: If you have access to WiFi then use it because it will save on battery life and the speed is faster than 3G.

Another short update on GB problems. The screen takes a little longer to wake up when I want to make a call of send a text. Also when I hang-up from a call it now goes to the call log rather than back to my home screen. Not big deals, but prefer the way it was.

I have noticed the end call to call log thing. I prefer the end call to homescreen also, but I can live with it. I usually spaz out hitting the back button or home button anyway, hahaha. Doesn't help that I'm mildly OCD about having my homescreen on before keylocking.
