Gingerbread keyboard issue

I have my phone rooted and i am using the red theme and i love it. I wanted to download and install the red gingerbread keyboard to my phone to go with the theme.

I put it on my sd card and used astro file manager to install it. I went to settings and put the checkmark next to GINGERBREAD KEYBOARD

i went to send a text but its not using the gingerbread keyboard, its using the default keyboard still

Before i switched to the red theme, i was using jtsuperclean.9 and that keyboard was a little different than the stock default keyboard. That is the keyboard still showing up even after i installed the gingerbread keyboard.

Did i miss a step anywhere? or does anyone know a way for me to get it working?

Press and hold in a text input box and then click select input method.
