Gingerbread keyboard released, should be compatible with all rooted 2.2 devices.

I'm running a stock DInc with 2.2 and had no issues. I would say first, obviously, be sure to download the correct version (i.e. 2.1 or 2.2 keyboard). Once you install the .apk, Settings > Language & Keyboard and check the box next to Gingerbread Keyboard. After that, go to a text box, like in your messaging app, and long press, select input method and Gingerbread Keyboard. That should be all it takes.

Has anyone installed this on a Droid Pro?? Wondering if it would work to replace the multi-touch keyboard. Thanks.

installed on droid x, runs fine however it seems to be distorted like clearly shorter than it should be
I know its supposed to be smaller that stock 2.2 keyboard but it seems like it thinks im running a smaller res display

is smaller than older android keyboards, keys are more square than rectangular.
but is very fast
can type faster than any other non swype keyboard

I just installed the app on my Droid Pro but even though the option to choose the Gingerbread Keyboard is available, it won't actually activate. Only landscape keyboard I can use is the original Multi-Touch keyboard. Darn.

@Zguy

I'm not rooted and I have the captivate as well. The op says for all users and I get that fin security warning. Only market apps can be installed. What needs to be done?

You have to allow non-market applications in order to install this app.
I tried it once on my D2. Every software keyboard I've ever used has taken up half the screen in portrait mode. This one only takes up a quarter of the screen and buttons are tiny, squished together. It does work, but I would be typing much slower than I do with better keyboard from the market, so it's uninstalled.
Maybe I'll try it again later with another release...

Is this suppose to be the new keyboard layout for the gingerbread update or what?

If you have an AT&T phone, they have blocked the ability to side-load an application or install an application that does not come from the Android Market. You can still do it, you just have to use the Android Sideload Wonder Machine

See the thread below for instructions and download of this application to your PC.

Yep, this IS the Gingerbread keyboard, just ported over to devices now also running 2.1.

On a side note, I did notice that Haptic Feedback doesn't seem to be working properly, at least not on my Fascinate. Not a deal breaker though, I really like this keyboard.
