Gingerbread Keyboard

I would like to have the gingerbread keyboard running on a stock htc evo 2.3.3. I have downloaded several of these from the market but it appears that the new software has it locked to sense 1.0 and will not allow the gingerbread keyboard (and yes I selected gingerbread keyboard in settings). It all looks good until you go to any app to type something -- still the same old sense 1.0 keyboard.

The new software seems to protect sense 1.0 and not allow changes!!!

Does anyone have any ideas how to get the gingerbread keyboard working?

I am looking forward to the developers finding a way to root the new 2.3.3 software.

This keyboard absolutely works on the EVO. To enable goto the home screen, push menu, settings, language & keyboard then check the box next to "Gingerbread Keyboard". Now open your sms app and long-press in the text input field, click input method and pick gingerbread keyboard.

Gah, I am at work and don't remember what .apk I got or where I got it from (lot of help I know). BUT I am able to enable it no problem. Do you have a problem enable the Swype keyboard? From your original post it looks like you are not long pressing in the text box to select the input you want.

Yeah it's nice, especially love the ability to remove the voice and settings keys. I went ahead a got the paid version, only $.99 I believe. It adds themes and more customization options.

I was not long pressing in the app to get the selection.

I was really confused the first time I tried to change keyboards too. Android needs a better method, too many steps.
