Makes no sense to complain about something that's not even out as yet.

I've been thinking about when we finally get there, what X and Z would be called. Heh

Hahaha yeah when were all retired trying to stay up to date.

But anyways I doubt us epic 0wners will get gingerbread, and if you think we will then idk what to say except we'll have to wait and see. Although I'll probably end up bailing on my epic to change to a dual core gingerbread when they come

I disagree - remember that Samsung is now the manufacturer of the Google phone, Nexus S/2. So Samsung was probably the first to have that OS on their hardware and the first to test it. So we have an inside track now to Google and their software updates.

This is a very good point that I have overlooked lately. With Samsung being the maker of the Nexus S, they have had their hands on Gingerbread for quite some time which gives them a huge leg up on other manufacturers like HTC and Motorola. The more I think about it the more it makes sense that Samsung may also have been working on making a stable release of Gingerbread for the Galaxy S series once Google releases Gingerbread. The only question that remains for me is how much of a holdup will come from the carriers?

Always chasin' that dragon aren't we? :p

Who's chasing me? :p  j/k of course, but yeah, I figured that sooner or later we'd start hearing the arguments and cries for Gingerbread. Best comment I read out of one of the AC blog posts was something like:

"How will Galaxy S owners feel when Gingerbread is announced and they don't even have an official release of Froyo yet?"

My answer to that? sad panda... :o :(

Well if, for example, Verizon holds up Gingerbread for the Galaxy S, I'm assuming they'll also hold it up for the Droids, so it should be an even disadvantage.

I love that episode of South Park. I can hear the song in my head - "****** harassment, Panda!"

Another point that people overlooked so far is the fact that Nexus S (the first phone with 2.3) has almost identical spec to Galaxy S phones, notably same Hummingbird 1ghz CPU.

I think this is significant.

However, we have to realize that the Nexus S is GSM-coded; Samsung will have to do a bunch more coding to optimize Gingerbread for CDMA (which they obviously didn't do for the Epic thus far - notable example: the airplane mode toggle).

Hopefully Samsung gets their act together regarding CDMA. Here's hoping!

Like they say, it's all about getting your foot in the door - which Samsung has. Here's to hopin' :)

that would be awesome but i doubt it. if they were going toi do that then why would they have pushed dk28 to developer phones? seems like they are still working on froyo

Funny...I was just thinking the same thing. It makes sense. Gingerbread comes out at the end of the year. Samsung promised the upgrade to the Galaxy S series by the end of the year. Why give us 2.2 when it will be out-of-date because 2.3 is coming out?
