The Captivate is pretty much nearing end-of-life. I wouldn't expect another update.

Ended up doing the factory reset. I didn't end up rooting, though. I didn't really have a lot of stuff I really cared about going back to default, and luckily, AndroZip has appbackup, so I didn't have to buy anything again. My phone works like new, so I guess it was worth it, more or less. Wish I didn't have to reset it, but it was better than the alternative. I plan on keeping this phone for a while, so I need to keep it working smoothly the best that I can. If it takes a factory reset or two to keep me from going crazy, then so be it.
