They have said sometime this summer. I am waiting for the inevitable leaked ROM, as that will tell me we are getting really close to officially updating to gingerbread. Also don't forget that all those Desire HDs were on the market around the world about 4 months prior to the Inspire's release. I'm not anticipating it, anxious, or anything. Until we see a leaked ROM, I wouldn't worry about how soon we will get it. When we see a leaked ROM, typically on other devices, we are around 1-2 months away from its release to the public. My advice is, just keep monitoring the mobile tech sites and when you finally see a leaked ROM for gingerbread for our Inspires, then you can start getting giddy for the update's then imminent release.

This is standard. The manufacturer provides the upgrade, it is up to the carrier to release it.

Thats why I rooted my Inspire and am running a desire HD gingerbread rom. Coredroid 7HD. Love it.

Considering AT&T has reversed policy with this, the upgrade rom itself should have the installing from unknown sources option available. There would be no need for SWM.
