Gingerbread update damaged my microSD card

After the Gingerbread update, my microSD card can't be read by the phone or a computer.

I installed the Gingerbread update through Settings > System > Update HTC software update about an hour ago. After the install completed (I got a message saying the update was successful), my microSD card will no longer mount. Neither Windows 7 nor Ubuntu will acknowledge it either. I have an old 128MB microSD card that all three can read just fine.

The first time I plugged the card into Windows 7, it said it was installing the necessary software for a while, There were two things it had to install and the second failed. After that, it doesn't even acknowledge when I plug the card in. If I boot into Ubuntu and plug it in, it doesn't acknowledge it either.

So basically, the update damaged my microSD card! I have rebooted many times, and reseated the card many times.

Is there anything I can do? Is there any recourse I can take to get a free replacement? I have TEP, but the SD card I was using is not the one that came with the phone. It's a 4GB Sandisk card.

Is there a way I can roll back to Froyo?

Thanks!

Nor Sprint or HTC will replace your card... sorry. Why not just use the "8gb" card that came with your eVo?

As to your question to rolling back to 2.2.... not that I have seen.

Thanks for the replies. I bought the phone very gently used, but it came with the 4GB card.

I guess I'll just order a new card then.

Its possible that it was just a coincidence, I have looked everywhere after reading this and I can't find anyone who had this problem. You card may have just went kaput, and it just so happened to be when you installed the update.

Ya .... totally agree and like you said op, just grab your self a new card....

Can't mount Evo - Gingerbread Update damaged card

I used the Gingerbread update on my Evo as well, and it will not mount any more (original card). When I try to go to my SD Card, I get a message saying, "Your content is unavailable because your phone is being used as USB storage. Disconnect USB to accces your storage." The USB is disconnected - so I don't know what the problem is.

Frustrated!

Yup, it happened to me (I was starting to think that I was the only one)! I ended up restoring the phone, and formatting my card. Somehow the update corrupted the file system. Everything works great now, and thankfully I had just gotten everything off of the card a few days before. I only lost my game saves (grumble) and a few pics at I had taken.

I wasn't using the card that came with the EVO either...I had upgraded to a 16gb card a while back.

I had the same thing happen, except it was a 32gb card that had a ton of music and some of my apps. Just stopped reading it no matter what I did. I tried to reformat the card, but even that didn't do anything. Had to just replace the card. I'll have to make sure to unmount any card in there before doing future updates. I thought it was just bad luck, but it appears to be a bit more than that.

Had the same thing with a 16GB card... Seems like its happened to a small number of people.

When it just happened to me I did a bit of research and it seems a few Droid X's were affected same way... I dunno might be a coincidence or might be a lil something to it

I updated my Samsung Galaxy S with Gingerbread and it has FRIED two microsd cards on me.

18 MONTHS? 18 FREAKIN' MONTHS? YOU, sir, are the king of the resurrected thread. You can't see it, but I am bowing in deference to you. Well played.
