Gingerbread update is coming!!

I got tired of waiting for AT&T (or Samsung) to give us the upgrade so I just bought a Galaxy S2 Skyrocket. it has 2.3.5. My girlfriend will get my Infuse. The Skyrocket is fast!

This is exactly why it's taken so long for us to get Gingerbread. Samsung & AT&T want people to give up and buy another phone.

Hey Cranky, how does the KK4 ROM compare to something like Infused 2.2.3 (if you know)? That is what I am using now and so far it is the most solid ROM I have tried. Although I have not tried any of the leaked GB AT&T ROM's but I have tried several i9000 ROM's and nothing comes close to Infused. Any thoughts on whether or not it is worth the switch?

Infused 2.2.3 is based off of the Rogers gingerbread and is a custom rom.

KK4 that I linked to is the full AT&T gingerbread leak. It's fast and stable, but not rooted. It has to be flashed in Odin or hemidall.

The only way to root it is to flash a different kernel, but then you loose hdmi & video. So to get those back and still be rooted you reflash the original kernel.

We've lost so many talented developers and the community is lacking in kernel's. We need someone to modify the leak's kernel's and we'd be golden :)

As soon as AT&T releases GB, a few of the developers will jump on the bandwagon again. There's no reason for them to bust their ass right now. With every leak, they'd have to rewrite the kernel.

Flash a rooted kernel and it's rooted. Then reflash the original kernel and you'll still have root, but video and hdmi will now be working. After the reflash you lose access to your sd card, but that's a quick and easy fix.

Could be, and sorry for that. Could also be because there are several 'versions' of 'hacked' GB being loaded on Infuses. Could be that the Infuse (and the Atrix) were just 'interim' phones until Samsung was ready with the Galaxy models for AT&T. I see the Infuse (and Atrix) selling for 49 dollars, doesn't seem to me like they will be a priority to upgrade.

I include the Atrix because both the Infuse and Atrix were the 'hottest' phones just 6 months ago selling at 200 dollars and now they sell for 1/4 that. I can't imagine why there would be any rush to 'upgrade' them from AT&T's as far as AT&T is concerned.

If AT&T has the attitude that upgrading these phones is not worth it then they are making a big mistake. I do not know many companies that would intentionally tell some of their customers that they are not worth their time. Upgrading these phones allows them to benefit from patches and fixes that are available in GB and not in FroYo. Upgrading a phone that someone will most likely be "stuck with" for two or more years is a good business move. It benefits the customers AND AT&T. Because a phone that is up-to-date is much less likely to cause their network problems.

A co-worker of mine has the Droid Incredible which recently was upgrade to GB. It was released a year before the Infuse and Verizon did not believe it was not worth investing time in providing an update. The Infuse will get GB. It already has it on Rogers network in Canada.

I went to the ATT stores here in Columbus, Ga and all the Infuse's where pulled. The sales people all said ATT is pulling them and it will only be sold online. So I went and got mine from radioshack for 1cent. I flashed the leaked gingerbread on it and have no problems other than the garbled video after boot up. After I lock phone and unlock a few times it goes away. Been running the leak for weeks with no problems. I wonder are they really planning on releasing it since i was damn near finished and they still havent.

Which leak did you flash? The first couple of leaks did not have bootloaders, thus the messed up boot screen. The latest leak KK4 is solid and has bootloaders.

Will we be seeing this anytime soon? I don't know how much longer i can use the infuse. My atrix blew this phone out of the water.

This is why att sucks. and why i am taking advantage of Straight Talk which runs on exactly same towers of att for 45 dollars a month. unlimited talk text and 2 gig of data. Best deal around.

Oh and forgot to mention that this is on my infuse. I used iphone 3gs before that. I love infuse but wifi sucks and gingerbread is needed. But I am happy enough for the time being. I would really be mad if I was paying 120bucks a month for this crap with att. howardsforum.com shows how to do all of this if anyone wants to know.

Root and ROM. There are some really great ROM's available for the Infuse and that is probably as close to official Gingerbread as we will get for some time. Although I would like some of the fixes that the official GB update might offer, I am happy with choosing to root and flash a ROM.
