Rumors are saying that android 2.3 and 2.4 are both going to be called gingerbread (kinda like eclair) and that 2.3 is going to be exclusive to the nexus s like the droid and 2.0.
Do you guys think htc will update the thunderbolt to 2.3 or just go straight to 2.4?

all the new MWC HTC devices have 2.4 so I am guessing the thunderbolt will go right to 2.4 as well.

Answer: Nobody knows :p

We can't even get an official price or a friggin release date, so there's no way we would know for sure when the next update is coming and what version it will be

I'd agree with SUB-dawg. Given that they have been working on other phones with 2.4, my guess would be that the TBolt will see version 2.4 released in the near future.

Based on the fact that 2.3 is for the Nexus S exclusively, and 2.4 will also be called Gingerbread, I am going to put my money where my mouth is and say it will be updated to 2.4...

HTC has a pretty damn good track record when it comes to updating phones, especially if they've launched with an outdated version of the OS. I'd be pretty shocked if we didn't see Gingerbread on the Thunderbolt within the first 3-4 months of Launch (if even that long).

I'm sure that once HTC's other 2.4 phones start dropping the Thunderbolt won't be far behind.

We've been waiting for this update for our phones for awhile. Rumors were that this month(February) it's almost the beginning of March. Ugh!

Read somewhere that the new Incredible S will launch with 2.2 and then get updated to 2.4, so I'd expect the same path for the TBolt.

I'm not all that concerned with Gingerbread. I want to see the next iteration -- the one that brings some features of Honeycomb to phones (whether it's some form of Honeycomb, Ice Cream, or something else).
