with the new addition of Matias how do you think the android interface will change? do you think they will start with something funky fresh and brand new or do you think they'll give it more of a webOs feeling or just try to make it more simplistic and elegant also do you think this is a good pickup for android

They've just about added all the necessary functions, now they should make all of those functions easier to get to and "prettier."

The only reason they would have hired them is to fix all that's wrong with Android as far as design goes. The core of Android is fine, and the features are there. What they need to fix now, though, are the looks.

We still need a good copy and paste implementation, among other things. But yes, pretty is never a bad thing :)

Good copy and paste? you should see the HTC copy/paste on the OS 2.1 SenseUI devices.

it's a blatant rip of iPhones.. it's exactly the same. :)

I think that the real design changes will probably come with 3.0, whenever that comes. It seems Google waits for the major releases to put the really big design alterations in. The exception to that seems to be 2.1, but for many devices, that was the first 2.x update they received, keeping with the major design changes trend.

I agree. Matias Duarte has only just got there, he isn't going to be able to revise the look of android overnight. Certainly I think that as they have talked about us getting Gingerbread by the end of this year it is already 'feature complete'. That is, they have decide what is going to be in it, they just have to make sure it works perfectly. I expect 3.0 to drop at next years IO. Time to start saving for those tickets.

They got the WebOS UI designer. Here is to hoping for some major UI changes in Gingerbread.
