Given all the "problems"

Hey all,
My wife is ready for a new phone. Specifically, she's ready to ditch her Blackberry Bold. We're wondering if the Fascinate is worth getting, regardless of the GPS issues, Bing, etc.

I have an original Droid, and haven't done much testing of the newer Android devices.

Any input would be appreciated before we spend all weekend at VZW store.

Thanks!

But anyways, yes the Fascinate is worth it! I dont have mine anymore but there are a lot of things I miss about it. I switched to the droid x as it fit me better. But over all the Fascinate is a GREAT phone and has so much potential. The GPS issue and Bing will be fixed when it gets the Froyo update.

Your wife will probably love it.

Its a good fast phone, occasional lag (all phones have it), amazing camera, wonderful screen, and a sleek look. You cannot go wrong with it. It is also easier to root and mess around with then the other android devices (save the HTC Incredible).

I came from an original Droid as well. I do miss it at times, but at this point I couldn't even tell you what I miss about it. I love the Fascinate; it's a good looking phone, great performance and I just like the feel of it. I also had a BB and I don't miss anything about that!

Go to the store and play with the phones a lot. Go back a few times until you get comfortable with one of them. Then just go for it.

To be honest and in my opinion if your not going to take the time to hack this phone and by that I mean root and remove all the bloat and spend time tweaking it until it runs smooth- your better off with something else.

I got mine on the BOGO (buy one, get one) deal and my father got the free one. He is constantly complaining about lock ups/freezes, lag, etc.
I had the same problem but recently took the time to tweak it to reduce the lag about 80%. It still a tad slow on some things but I can live with it.

I need to get to work on my fathers now so he can be happy with his.

When I had my fascinate back before I rooted it I did not have any problems with it locking up. It would be a little jerky from time to time but so is my droid x.

I'm not sure how comfortable I would be rooting any android phone that wasn't mine, especially if something went wrong.

I just rooted my droid and tried to install some of the custom ROM's that are out there using ROM Manager. None of them worked for some reason. I got to thinking that I screwed up, and better quit while I was ahead. Since then, I haven't messed with it.

I was thinking the same thing. In the 11 months I've had the Droid, I've had several minor lags, but no lock-ups. Nothing that hasn't happened on any 'Berry I've owned in the past.

I came over about 2 weeks ago from a BB tour. This phone is great compared to that. I had 3 BB before this and it is sooo much better. The only real thing is the actual keyboard but I got used to it quickly and can type faster now with swype. The browser is so much better than the BB. my only issue was the battery but it still gives me 12 hours of solid use.

I'm not rooted either, and I still run TouchWiz! I'll do LauncherPro+ every now and then when I get bored though. I'm bloated with all the stuff Verizon put on there and everything. Never have/had an issue. I use this phone for development so I'm always running/testing my apps on it, debugging on it and everything. Stays speedy all day with no issues.

So I'm un-bloated, un-tweaked, un-rooted and couldn't be happier.

This is definitely reassuring!

You can also look at it this way mickey... If the fascinate ends up not working out for you you still have 30 days to take that phone back.

Very true. Wouldn't be the first time we returned a phone!
