Glad I didn't wait for the new iPhone

Forgive my devil's advocacy - I have used voice actions on Android a total of once, just to see that t worked; I have no interest in talking to my phone to control it in public - is there an Android voice action product that, after trying to make an appointment with somebody at 10 am, tells you that you already have an appointment at 10 am, asks what you want to do, and allows you to say to make it at noon then?

Sure, Siri is a little bit more advanced than Android's Voice Commands. But that's because no one USES the voice commands. If they were USED more, then maybe Google would make them better. But since like almost NO ONE USES them, then it's no good to update an app to be super complex and advanced like Siri is when no one will use it.
Go ask your iPhone (or iPad) friends how much they use Facetime a day. Yeah, they'll use Siri about that much. Over time, I think Facetime was used MOST when it was a NEW feature. Now I see like maybe once and a while my friends will be calling eachother on there? And Skype is becoming increasingly more popular anyways and Facetime is yet another thing that Apple jacked and overhyped.
I've used my Bionic's front facing camera about twice...once to call Bworley50, and once to call my friend's iPhone 4. Yeah not super amazing, but a fun feature. Same for Siri and Voice Commands in general.

If you want to see what siri will be like, check out "voice action" in the market. we have had it for like a year, sorry Apple. Pretty amazing app, and I can't wait to see what the future will hold for this kind if app.

While waiting (impatiently) for the Bionic to appear, I left my beloved Droid X and jumped ship to iPhone4 - just to see what all the hype was about. OMG! Four months of iPhone was way too much for me. It was like being locked in a closet - a closet that was created a couple years ago. The technology is SOOO far behind current Android, it was hard to believe people will go to the mat claiming it's cutting edge.

With the iPhone4, I found myself SEVERELY limited in customization & settings to the iPhoneWay. Also, the Safari browser leaves you with a gray screen every time you scroll AND you can't access many websites because Apple doesn't allow Flash, the screen turf (albeit pretty) is a tiny 3.5 inches, there's NO notification light on the exterior (major inconvenience - keep missing emails and text messages), no turn-by-turn navigation unless you buy an app, the need for iTunes to do anything to the iPhone, and on and on.

There's a whopping frustration factor because so much of what I did with even the Droid X was impossible on the iPhone... Where's the beef here?

IMO - the only people who think iPhones are cutting edge are those who already have an iPhone and are looking for something better - with blinders on. Absolutely mind-blowing. It was a tremendous relief to activate my new Bionic and get back to the REAL world of smartphone development.

I must add, in all fairness, that the iPhone4 (and 4S) should have a better operating system with iOS5 installed - hopefully with an improved browser. And, of course, it is pretty. Screen colors are bright (so are the Bionic's) and animation in apps generally is greater and more sophisticated than the same apps on Android. However, as developers take the Android system more seriously, I think this will even out.

I agree with you 100%...everyone thinks it's all cutting edge. Apple right now isn't even coming out with anything NEW. All their "enhancements" to the 4S is all stuff that other companies (mostly Google) have been doing for over a year now. Siri? Android has had it forever now. Dual Core? Yeah same. Big camera? Everyone's been doing that forever. Drop down notifications? Straight from Android. I can keep going, it's just annoying that people are so arrogant and think Apple's products are the bleeding edge of technology. Right now, the Bionic and GSII are the two main bleeding edges of technology in smartphones, and soon we'll be seeing the Prime, Vigor, Droid HD, etc, and will continue to demolish Apple's little smartphone race.
