I bought the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 GLASS screen protector for my phone when I bought it. 6 months lat er there was a large arching crack in it. I was going to go to the verizon store and switch it out for a new one, but before I do, are these glass protectors notorious for cracking? Perhaps I should get the regular rubber kind, although I've always hated those.

No, that's not typical, assuming there hasn't been some kind of trauma to it. The Verizon ones for the Note 3 have a good reputation in general, although there can always be a defective one of course. I have a Verizon glass screen protector on mine and there is not even the slightest little scratch on it, even after a face down drop onto rough iron.

personally i love my glass screen rpotector in combination with my otter box. my phone has went through so much abuse and it doesnt even have a scratch on it.

The only problem I've noticed with glass protectors is if you have a case that can press against the sides of it. It can essentially pry the protector loose by constantly pushing on it. That's happened 3 times to my mate's Note 3, and once with my M8. I've heard the Verizon protectors are relatively thick, so gonna look into a thinner one that may not be effected as much.

did you put the screen protectors on yourselves or did the phone company do it? The reason i ask is with the problem you described it sounds like the glass screen protector wasnt installed correctly, because i have never had a problem with mine personally.

The Verizon store did all 4 protectors, and they were pretty meticulous about it. The first ones were put on right at the time of purchase.

what type of protective case is on the phone in addition to the glass screen protector?

Mine is a Sup Case II, and can't remember what's on the Note 3. I know it's a two piece that has a somewhat soft rubber skin that covers the back and sides, with a hard plastic ring that fits on the sides to lock it in. Both cases have a little lip that extends slightly over the front side of the phone. I know on mine it was kind of my fault because my AUX plug is a bit wide for the case's opening and I have to grip the phone a fair bit to work it in. That caused the lip to push harder than normal on the edge of the protector. I don't think my mate has done anything like that, but I noticed her case lip does touch the protector after I realized what caused mine.

I've used glass screen protectors for probably about a year now. The only problem I've noticed is that I think the oleophobic coating might wear off because as time passes my screen collects more fingerprints and they're a little harder to get off after a while vs when they are new.
