global vs lte/cdma

Now that I have ICS I've noticed that I I have a option for global or lte/cdma what is the difference?

Leave it on LTE/CDMA while in the states. You only need to use Global if you travel outside of the US.

What do you mean "need to use"?

Global setting is the exact same as LTE CDMA with the ability to keep signal outside US.

The GSM, LTE, and CDMA radios are probably on when in global mode and then only CDMA and LTE when in the other mode. I notice my battery isn't great in global mode compared to just CDMA.

Basically, it's searching for the other radios when you don't need it to.
