Gmail App vs regular email app

Hi guys, I have a T-bolt with launcher pro. I found that to get the bubble notification on the icon in the dock to show up I have to use gmail and not the regular email app. I also noticed that emails seem to arrive much faster in my gmail account than my yahoo accounts. So I figure I want to start using gmail more. However, it seems like the gmail app is far inferior to the standard email app.

It just seems like the gmail app wasn't designed very well. To me the standard app looks nicer. The fonts in gmail are too big. In the standard app, if I went to send an email I just hit compose. In gmail I have to hit menu and then compose. In standard, there's a button that says reply, in gmail it's an arrow???

The biggest problem I see is that if I'm composing an email and I want to add multiple people from my contacts, there isn't a contact button that takes me to a screen where I can select the people I want to send the email to. The standard app has that. In gmail, I actually have start typing in that persons email address for them to pop up. I don't memorize all my contacts email addresses. That's what the phone is for. It would be like having to dial someones phone number instead of selecting their name. Am I doing something wrong or is the gmail app just kinda lame?

I'll look into that. I just wish the gmail app was better. I found I can set up my gmail account into the regular email app and then disable notifications to the gmail app. It works but I'm not getting emails as fast as I was with the gmail app.

You can add your Gmail account to the regular Mail app and turn off notifications for Gmail. You can then see all accounts together or individually and have the layout that you prefer.

I will warn you, however, that email from Gmail takes longer to push through the Mail app...don't know why.

Do you have the email app set to push or 15 min. It could just be that.

I too prefer the layout of the email app however the gmail and yahoo apps render html formatted emails better. I don't see that the basic email does at all. Coming from a bb the mail is pretty pathetic but one thing I was hoping for was html email and I hardly get that. Of course everything else is sooooo superior to bb (except for battery) that its okay by be.

I was told that only the Gmail app supports push e-mail from Gmail and that the Mail app only polls the server at set intervals (which results in slower delivery and greater battery drain). The K9 Mail (which is based off of the original Mail app) suffers from the same limitation. If anyone knows differently, please feel free to correct me. :-)

Not sure where you're getting this, but the HTC email app renders HTML emails just fine.

I was going to say, I cant find a push setting the regular mail app ,I think I will use the gmail app instead for a while, right now, I gmail pulling my other pop mail accounts (att, and two work emails)

I have never tried, but I think you can set up gmail to use an Exchange connection, and then configure the mail client to use push mail through Exchange... See: Setting up Google Sync. The support page is written from an iPhone perspective, but the settings should work the same on an Android device.
