GMail App

Hi all,

The Gmail app on my Samsung S4 does not show unread messages when new emails are received in Gmail. It gives a vibration notification but doesn't display an "unread messages" count like the native email app.

Any suggestions?

Thanks meryeweb. I should have mentioned that I tried many of the apps from the playstore already. They all quit running whenever I've tried to install them. I've found other forums online where users have stated that Google has stopped allowing third party access to Gmail and therefore the apps don't work. Thought someone might be able to provide some up-to-date information on this issue. I can't be the only one that is experiencing this. Is it a lost cause?

It requires the paid version of Nova Launcher, but will allow badge notifications for many apps, not just Gmail.

Nova Launcher was the answer to this. It's kind of disappointing that a paid app was the only solution to this issue and that badge notification isn't inherent to all apps with the built-in launcher. Oh well, it works now. Thanks again for the info.
