Gmail data usage

I purchased a Nexus 4 the other day and have noticed the gmail data usage is extremely high. This only happens on wifi. I have disabled gmail syncing for both my Google accounts, but the background data for gmail is still going up. Attached is a picture of the data usage. Has anyone seen this before? Can anyone offer some advice on how to stop gmail from using so much background data? Thanks.

Follow this path: Gmail > Setting > Choose your account > Data Usage
change the day of mail to sync! and the option to download attachments via Wi-Fi
Maybe it is syncing all of your emails

Thanks. I reduced my second gmail account to only sync 2 days and the data usage has leveled out.
