I've got a Samsung Tab S7. Gmail seems to be stuck on a 5/31/2020 version. I've asked in the Tab S7 forum and others seem to have the same problem. Any idea if Google has forgotten about tablet updates or something?

My Pixel C and Lenovo Tab M8 FHD are also on 2020.5.31.316831277, so it does seem like they're lagging behind for tablets. Last update on my Pixel C according to the Play Store was 6/17/2020.:-\

That might relate more to the Android version it's running. I have the Android 11 update and my Gmail app is now 2020.10.18.341076532

It's odd that GMail on tablets is lagging so far behind - the phone apps are updated somewhat regularly and one of the nice benefits of Android over iOS has been that the core apps (such as GMail) don't have to wait for an OS update to be updated...

I have Android 11 on my Tab S7 also. Still stuck on the late May version.

I had to manually update Google play system update after I received Android 11. Go to settings -> Biometrics and security -> Google play system update and check for updates.

Interesting. I peaked in Apps under Gmail and I have that date, but in Google Play if I check the app version it's from April.

I tend to do this every couple of weeks with my tablets and phone. Seems to help push the updates through with both the Google Play Store and Galaxy Store.

Google abandoned tablets long ago, I'm surprised they even have a separate app optimized for tablets.

Considering the possible rebirth of Android tablets in the form of Chrome OS tablets (starting in earnest with the Lenovo Chromebook Duet, and next with the upcoming bigger detachable code-named "Coachz"), it'll be interesting to see if Google and Android developers start to pay attention to the form factor again.
