Question gmail forcing landscape with split screen view

Samsung Tab 8, SM-X200, Android version 14
All of a sudden the gmail app no longer opens email in portrait, forcing me to turn the tablet to landscape every time ANNOYING! I have spent an inedible amount of time searching but most of the suggestions - switches - menus do not exist. Why would I want to switch to landscape and be stuck with HALF a screen for the message. It ticks me off so much I want to uninstall gmail but that is no longer an option. Has anyone found a working solution for the bug.

Are you in the latest GMail app version? I tried it on mine (Tab S9, however) and I can still open e-mails and threads in both landscape and portrait correctly (tried full screen, floating window, split view, and 'classic' DeX). Have you checked that the app isn't being forced into portrait in the Labs settings of your phone? Or the plugin for rotation in GoodLock?

Thanks for the reply but gone down the road dozens of time but the issue remains. If it takes on click more to do the same task it is a downgrade.

Check in settings menu under screen display >screen layout/zoom is is set to multiple view or standard?

If you don't have those options long Press Gmail app then tap info>storage and clear data then force stop it

Mine only has the Standard View Option. Saw a new update today but there is still no option to stop the forced landscape split view. Back to Outlook, a sane email app. But thanks.

Thanks but no go. There is no option for split screen in labs.

That option moved a bit in newer versions. It's now in Advanced Features/Multi window/Multi window for all apps (that takes you into Labs)/Landscape view for portrait apps.

Just to be sure, Auto-Rotate is turned on, correct?

Gmail rotates to Portrait orientation (and therefore no dual-column layout) on my Tab S9 FE+.

Mine only has the Standard View Option. Saw a new update today but there is still no option to stop the forced landscape split view. Back to Outlook, a sane email app. But thanks.

Ahh..tablet doesn't give that option
