Gmail not accepting usual password on tablet

I have been having intermittent problems with gmail on my Asus tablet (with jelly bean). I get a "connection problem" displayed, and at times the sent messages just remain in the outbox, though not always. However, since this latest error message was displayed 24 hours ago, the outgoing messages have remained stuck in the outbox. Repeated attempts to enter my email address and password in the gmail account just produce the "incorrect password" message. I am receiving mail, but am unable to send out any mail. The only thing that I changed prior to this problem, was to uninstall Mini Opera. It had become erratic, just displaying a scattering of random text, on a blank page. I replaced it with Chrome. I hope this lengthy explanation will enable someone to advise a solution.

Have you tried removing the account from the device then re-adding it?
