Gmail notifications don't dismiss

Hello

I'm coming from a Motorola Atrix 2. Use gmail for personal and Google apps email for work.

In the past if I got a notification on the phone for new email, but read it on the web, the notification on the Atrix 2 would disappear.

I noticed that my S3 notifications don't go away. Anyone else notice this?

Am I m missing something?

Sync your email in imap, go gmai,l search imap settings. I just double checked it and when I opened a new email on the web (from pc). Refreshed phone the notification dropped off (mail was still there. Then went and deleted it on web and when sync phone it was removed (also do not forget to set time on phone sync

Hey Judge,

I have IMAP already active.

I don't know what else it could be. It's a pain in the ass where notifications don't dismiss if I read new email on the web.

Anyone else have this issue or have any ideas? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Sorry I cannot tell you what is different but I believe it has to do with settings

Thanks for your response.

I just spent about half hour with at&t and then with tier 2 at Samsung and they said it's not possible.

They said if you get a new email on your gmail, and read it on gmail.com, the little M notification for your new Gmail email will not dismiss on the S3. The only way it would dismiss is by pulling down the notification bar and hit clear.

What's weird is I have Imap enabled on my gmail. Now do you have SHOW IMAP on all your folders checked too? Are you using priority inbox?

This might be a deal breaker with keeping this phone or not. Heck my old Atrix 2 and iPhone 4 clears the notification if I read the email. Ugh....so frustrating.

I tested it and the notification does go away, around 2 minutes after I read the email. It used to go away immediately on my Samsung Infuse.

Ok so my light stops blinking but that stupid M stays on.

You said yours dismisses after some time? My old Atrix did it instantly. I'll try again and have some patience with it.

I am not sure what to say. I did spend a few hours messing with it to get it working. I do not like this set up compared to what I was using on my Iphone. But it does now clear like I said. Sad to say I was messing with the settings and kinda got lost in what I did. Sorry. But again I did get it to do what you wanted.

I hope someone that knows what they are doing can help

ok I took another close look at it. It does require me to refresh the mail inside gmail. If I looked at it on the web the White "M" goes to a small black email symbol in touch wiz. When I deleted it on the web and refreshed the gmail on the phone the touch wiz notification dissapeared. But it took a refresh inside the mail on the phone from me.. So I imagine this has nothing to do with ICS but the Touch Wiz coating that Samsung has given to it.

I didn't have to refresh anything. It disappeared automatically.

Well did a test over night, and on my PC sent two emails one I just opened the other I deleted on PC. Notification was showing on Phone, I never looked at or opened them on phone. This morning The notification was gone. The message I had just opened was still there and the one I had deleted on PC was gone from phone. So yes it does work, now it is just time frame. Might have to do with poll setting on phone I imagine. The reps at Samsung have this one wrong
