Is GMAIL the only option to use for the Android Market. I would prefer to use the same account for everything instead of having a GMAIL account for the Market and a Yahoo account for email. I do not mind switching to another email carrier, but I absolutely hate threaded conversations in GMAIL. Is is possible to turn off threading on Droid devices or using another account instead of GMAIL?

It's a Google operating system, so yes Gmail is the only option for Market access.

For the best Yahoo support I would get the official Yahoo app or use Maildroid.

As far as turning off threaded messaging in gmail I'm not sure on that one. Personally it's one of my favorite features. If you don't mind me asking what don't you like about threaded email conversations?

Yes, unfortunately you HAVE to have a Gmail account, not just a google account and another email address.

The workaround I used for my wife (who still uses yahoo) was to create a dummy gmail account for her and have everything from that email forwarded to her yahoo address, then download the yahoo mail app.

Regarding your other question, about threading, I hate the email threading too. I don't think there is a way to turn it off in the Gmail app, but I use the stock HTC email app, and it does not thread the emails there.

So, maybe, with those two work arounds you can make it work?

You have to have the Google account for the Market. That doesn't, however, mean that you have to use gmail for email and drop Yahoo.
