Only email I use is gmail, I've noticed under the accounts and sync section that I had gmail and a mail sync. Both are pointing toward gmail, was wondering what others had and possibly the difference between the two? Are they both needed? If its possible to rid of one that would be one less sync the phone is doing.

I deleted the HTC mail account. That get's rid of the sync option. duplicate. no need for it in my opinion, unless you want to have your outlook account or another e-mail account going to that one. However, you can always forward those e-mails to gmail as well.

I actually just turned off sync with the gmail app so that I could try the HTC Mail program for a couple of days. It seems like they have improved it some from the Incredible.

Anybody else trying this?

I also wonder if there is a battery difference between the two. You wouldn't think so but you never know.

Using mail right now because the htc mail widget. It works pretty good. So i turned off the gmail function until htc makes a widget for gmail.

My understanding is that the gmail app will push email to your device. The HTC sync email is polling unless you set up activesync. ...and the UI is different. If you are a big gmail user then i would assume the gmail app give you more google goodness

yeah but gmail on my dinc doesn't push as fast as it did on my bb or on my wife's iphone....still a bit of a lag imho.

You can set up ActiveSync with HTC Mail and get push notifications. As well as IMAP sync. It seems just as fast to me as the Gmail app.

One downer so far is that there is only one notification. I have two accounts that sync through the mail program and would like to know which account a new message has come to without looking.

Other than that, so far so good.

Can you have both accounts in Gmail synced to the app?

I only see that it allows me to view each account separately, but I'd like to have both of them show up at once.

My problem right now is.

The htc mail is so slow, and somehow missing some emails as well.

The gmail one, I can only view 1 account at a time.

I ran both HTC mail and Gmail app at the same time and noticed the Gmail app was faster. I even had HTC mail update every 5 mins and Gmail consistently came in faster.

I like the setup on HTC mail better than Gmail though.

Is there a way to have each email on its own line in the Gmail app like the HTC mail is set up. For example, say an email chain has 5 replies in it, Gmail just displays one line with a (5) whereas HTC has 5 items, one for each reply.

Also, is there a way to see your sent messages in the Inbox? (I came from a blackberry so im use to this).

Lastly, is there a way to search for words within a body of an email in HTC mail?

I also just noticed that the Gmail app does not let you have an "all accounts" view... how is that even possible?

Ok so I've been using the mail application fror all my gmail emails. What I have noticed yesterday is when I delete the emails from my phone (I logged into a computer and looked online) that those deleted emails went into a different trash folder and not the default trash folder. Instead of going to that default trash folder, it went to a created folder called (IMAP\trash). Is there anyway to make all deleted mail go directly to the defaulted trash folder, this makes it easier deleting trash in one place rather than two.

Also when I delete emails on a computer, using the webbased gmail, they are sent directly to that defaulted trash folder and not the IMAP\trash folder. Are there any other thunderbolt users experiencing this. I know this is probably how gmail is set up, but maybe theres an option to turn this off or redirect.

Thanks

**bump..anyone have any insight to this?

I am also having issues with gmail vs mail. I am not getting push from the gmail app. I have gotten a few. But all my emails are coming through htc mail. I would prefer gmail app (I think). I dont know. Not sure what to do. Feel like a tard. But just unfamiliar with how things work so far. I only want one app for mail. Gmail is my only acct. Any hints?

I still have both the Htc and gmail app enabled, and both show new email notifications at the same time.

What you missed, is to set up the HTC email Gmail account on ActiveSync. Plenty fast.

One thing that the HTC Mail app doesn't do very well is Exchange and Flag / Star:

1). FLAG / STAR
In Google Mail website, you can "star" an email and if you check your Outlook / Mac Mail application, it will show up as a "flagged" mail. You can do this vice versa. In HTC Mail application, it does NOT. I can "star" an email in Google Mail website or "flag" an email in Outlook / Mac Mail applicaiton and that didn't translate back to HTC Mail application.

2). CALENDAR INVITE
For example, if I received a Calendar invite UPDATE (not original invite), say to change the meeting time or to cancel the meeting entirely, there is no option to do so.

I came from iPhone and the stock iPhone Mail can read Exchange calendar invites (new, delete, change) and flags very well. Anybody know if this is settings or just limitation of HTC Mail app?
