It says "google talk failed to login. if this is a google apps account, confirm that chat service is enabled for this account." i then click retry but nothing happens. I tried turning off synch for contracts, gmail, and calender, then turning them back on. I also did a battery pull. Also, I can't remove my account because it's my only gmail account.

Go to.. Menu.. Settings.. Applications.. Manage applications.. All.. Scroll to the Gmail app and clear the cache and data and let the account resync again. This should fix it .. if not, try the following.

According to Google support, the fix would be to:
1. Settings ? Accounts & Sync ?, for each affected account
2. Uncheck All Sync Options (Contacts, Gmail, Calendar)
3. Wait for two hours (could be less)
4. Revisit account options, re-enable Sync for desired services
This will even work to fix issues on the primary account, which cannot be removed.

Is the google account that you trying to use for Gtalk the same one that was set up originally with the phone?
