Gmail Settings change?

Just installed Google+ and went into my settings to configure how often all that data should sync. During this process I noticed that I hadn't received any emails in a few days and thought it was fairly weird. Turns out my gmail wasn't set to sync, it somehow turned itself off in the last 3 days or so. Now, when I go to set how often it updates and what the peak hours are I can't find it. My only choices at the moment are "sync all the time" or "sync manually". I don't want this thing killing my battery, but I also don't want to hit refresh every time I grab my phone. Has the option to reign supreme over your gmail settings been removed from this version of Gingerbread or do I maybe need to speak to a Sprint agent about fixing this?
