Gmail sync and S10

Never had this issue with any of my android phones (note 9 or s9 or countless others) before but here is something bizarre that is making me really frustrated.

Gmail is synching (new messages coming in) only when the phone is plugged into the charger.

I checked all the settings and still no luck.

Anyone else had this issue before ?

There's some settings that take getting used to, if you're using the Samsung email app I found you have to set it to check constantly for each account you add with gmail, otherwise it defaults to something like every 2 hours.

Make sure battery optimization is not enabled in settings for Gmail.

I started having the same issue so I just turned off the battery optimization for Gmail. How much more battery does the high performance use?

Dont see the option on the s10 to just turn off gmail. I used to on the n9
