I've gone into settings on my Nexus 5, and everything is checked right. Auto sync is on under data usage, and under the Google account. I've tried deleting and re-adding them etc.

Been googling this all day and none of the answers I've found have worked.

Every time I open Gmail, at the top it says "account sync is turned off"

Gah!! How do I get it to stay on? Or is this a glitch I'm just gonna have to get used to/wait for a fix.

You probably have sync turned off in your quick settings

I've gone into every settings possible, from in the app itself, to all of the options in the phone settings. Sync is turned on everywhere.

Every time I open the app, I have to go into the app settings and turn on sync. It doesn't stay on.

It sounds like sync isn't active in your quick pull down (where you swipe from to top of the screen down) make sure that sync is active there as well. Only other spot outside if the app itself to check is go to settings-accounts- google and make sure gmail is ticked

I've noticed that too since the last update to Gmail. It's probably a problem with the app.

Any other ideas with this? I'm in the same boat as lactivistdoula. Every time I open up Gmail, right at the top it says "Auto-sync is off. Touch to turn on." I'm not getting emails because of this. I've verified that "Auto-sync data" is checked in Settings > Data Usage > Auto-sync data. I've also checked under Settings > Accounts > Google and I've got the check mark next to Gmail checked. I've also seen in other places where people have apps like Battery Doctor (or some other battery-saving app) working behind the scenes turning it off. I have no apps like that. What am I missing?

Bump because I'm interested if anyone has any ideas/info on this. There has to be a solution, right?
