I have a s20 plus and it started syncing gmail and won't stop till I turn off sync in all my gmail accounts and reboot the phone. then I turn on the sync and it's fine for a few hours and then it starts syncing again and will continue for hours. so what do I do now????:(

Welcome to Android Central.

Are you using the Gmail app or the Samsung email app?

Welcome to Android Central! Do you mean it's not successfully completing the sync? If you go to Settings>Accounts>Google, do you see a Sync Error under Gmail?

First off it's a Verizon phone and has the latest updates. when I look it has settings>accounts and backup then I can click accounts. but nothing what you said is showing and no where does it say sync error under gmail. I did turn off all sync for all the gmail accounts, rebooted the phone and it's still there. I turned on all the sync for gmail and have seen all of them. it still says syncing mail and a scrolling line going across the screen since 4:28 this morning.

Hi, its normal to sync especially if you set it to under accounts in settings with sync on .

Is this a notification that you're talking about? Where do you see the "Syncing Mail" and the progress bar animation?

Do you have only one Gmail account, or multiple ones you're syncing?

I have multiple accounts and it's in the notification bar when I swipe it down. I see all the emails that are there and the gmail syncing. I can clear all the gmail notifications off and the syncing notification is still there. and it's been there since 4:28 this morning. been running over almost 14 hours now. and as I said before this wasn't there and I have never seen this till a couple days ago.

Maybe try adding one account at a time, and see if the problem only starts after adding a specific Gmail account.

Looks like having issue from clearing from notification panel after using clear notification button

I thought the problem is that it shows Gmail constantly trying to sync. So if that's due to a specific Gmail account, then adding them back one by one might narrow down the culprit account.

Thats what I thought also until I read their last response saying can't clear from notification panel after hitting clear

WEll folks I did the force stop gmail and it's gone. now to see if it starts back up. I will let you know tomorrow.

Thanks
John

Good morning everyone, just want to say thanks to all who helped on this odd problem. I can report the force stop did the trick and the phone is back to it's normal ways.
:)
Thanks again
