GMail syncing

On my Tab S7, I seem to be having trouble with Gmail syncing in the background. Lots of times I've looked at the tablet and seen no new emails (no notifications) and then I've started the Gmail app and it downloads 5-10 new emails.

I've tried setting the Gmail app to not be optimized in the background, but it doesn't seem to help. I've looked in Accounts and made sure Sync is on.

Any suggestions as to what else to look at?

Is the Sync option (general switch) on your tablet active? Are notifications turned on for GMail (I think turning notifications off also restricts sync, but might not be right on this one)? You can also try the usual trick with Boogle accounts when these glitchy things start to happen: sign out of your account and log back in.

Just to be clear -- you are using the Gmail app for your Gmail account, right? In other words, you're not using the stock Samsung Email app for your Gmail, or your Gmail app for a non-Gmail account?

Yes, sync is active. Notifications for the Gmail app are active.

Yes, I'm using the Gmail app to access a Gmail account.

No power saving modes turned on, it is set to optimized.

Definitely it is the background sync. I used the tablet this morning to read the newspaper, still had no message notifications. Then I went into Accounts, found my Gmail account, and turned sync off and back on. A few seconds later I had a notification of new Gmail.

So I'm wondering how I can protect the background sync process from getting "optimized" to sleep? Because notifications work if there's anything sync'd to the tablet, Gmail is already set to not be optimized and indeed pops up as soon as it sees something to notify about.

Mustang, not out to sleep for non-use.

I've now tried clearing data on the Gmail program. Might have helped; I'll know more in the morning. Don't know why it would be needed, as the tablet was set up less than 10 days ago. But so far a couple of test emails have come through with a notification popping up.

Ok good , rule that out .
Its strange as some members experience issues with Gmail delayed notification on Samsung and others don't, we can try more things if clearing data didn't work, let us know!

It seems like clearing data on the Gmail program has resolved this problem. At least it's worked correctly since I did that about 36 hours ago...

Weird!

Ok good, possibly clearing that out wiped out any update to that app data stuck .
