GN or Wait

If Storm 1 could meet your need for 38 months the Nexus should keep you happy for a decade

Former Storm 1 owner myself..... then Storm 2, DroidX, Thunderbolt (short time as that phone really sucked) and more happy with Nexus.

I really tried to like the Storm 1 and Storm 2. But, both had a significant drawback for me. That being the almost daily battery pulls and just how slow their browsers were.

You will not see a newer Nexus on Verizon until ~December 2012, as the Nexus phones are released in a yearly cycle. Of course there will be other newer Android devices released before than every few months, just like there has been and will continue to be. But remember, newer doesn't always mean better ;)

I hope you are right because there is a rumor about some "Galaxy plus" with the 4470 and an 8mp cam and it might be the sprint version. The specs the current nexus should have had. I know I would be pissed.

The would be unprecedented for the Nexus family. The only things Google has changed in the same Nexus generation are radio (a necessity for being multi-carrier) and screen (there was a shortage of SAMOLED so SLCD was used). I'd be surprised if they used a different processor/camera for the Sprint version. I'd be 10x as surprised if the released a Galaxy Nexus variant on Verizon, shortening the 1-year release cycle.

Totally agree...it's just rumor mill garbage. The next change we'll see in the Nexus is in December.

Storm1 was a problem, Storm2 wasn't too bad and never had problems with daily battery pull with it. I even got into creating themes for it. But haven't missed either of those since coming over to Android based phones.

my wife had a storm and I got annoyed just watching her try to use that thing
...to make it 38 months.....you must have the patience of a saint.

Get a Nexus.....best phone Ive ever had. I still cant put the damn thing down and I picked mine up early on launch day. This thing will definitely get you through another 2 years or so if your so inclined....I cant even imagine what will be available by then....but right now I could care less. I love my phone (my wifes a big fan of hers too)

If you think a new nexus is coming think about how long the world and even worse the US took to get the phone (from the start of the rumor mill from the start of the announcement from the start of the release speculation from memos)

I love the situation I find myself in...with a GN and an upgrade in October...just when all the holiday devices will start to come out...

Do it, best phone I've ever had. All I need now so that I'm not envious of iPhones is some sort of docking system for music that doesn't suck ass.

If you want the most current stock Android experience on Verizon, chances are the Galaxy Nexus is your best bet for most of 2012. I'm sure the price will come down in the following months, so it depends on how long you want to wait.

With that said... I must give you A LOT of props for still using the 1st gen Storm. I bought one shortly after launch, and since moved on to the Gen2 Storm, Droid Incredible, HTC ThunderBolt, and now the Nexus. This is honestly the first phone that I am 100% satisfied with (The Incredible came really close). Go for it!

Thank you for the props. Love the fact that you have test driven all these other devices in the interim.

I have been with Verizon Wireless since 1990, first cell phone was the one with the 10lb shoulder strap battery that you would plug in the handset too once you left the car.

And my monthly bill has been the same for almost 22 years. the only difference is now i have 6 smart phones on my account instead of one when i first joined big red.

The Storm 1? Dude, you are gonna be go happy with this phone. I wouldn't wait another second. Anybody who could deal with "The Icee of Smartphones" for 3 years deserves a great phone. Welcome to the forum.

thank you and you are correct. I keep giving my two and new to my kids, and with wife. And with four kids and one wife i have voluntarily been passed over so many time they are all in agreement the next two and new is mine.

and yes, i have probably grown very tolerant in terms of cellphone performance.

I would get the GN if I were you, I don't see anything coming and being much better in the next 6 months to a year. If you survived with the S1 for that long the GN could last you up to the next five years and you'll still be happy.

very funny too. You are right and in large part i offered the question to you guys because i tend to buy and keep my devices for long periods of time. that's why i want to do my best to make sure this device can survive my DNA.

Your post seems to be a common theme here which is comforting to me.
Thank you.

if there were an Olympic event for BB battery pull there is no doubt in my mind i could contest for the gold medal blind folded.

Not sure about the saint thing, just a high degree of tolerance which usually accompanies being married over 3 decades to the same women and having 4 kids, 1 grand kid, etc, etc, etc.

I had to replace the battery last year while i waited for various Android devices to come out and until the GN i was unwilling to even consider giving up my Storm 1.

I want to thank everybody for their input. I am strongly leaning to parting with my Storm 1 - just dont know what i will do without it :-)

Here is my only significant issue. the camera. I know its silly and completely understand it is primarily a phone and internet device and that those two functions will occupy 99% of my interaction with it. Got that. It will bother me a tad if Verizon comes out with a 12mp camera in a similar android device in 3-6 months. It made no sense to me that GN has a 5mp camera when every other phone is 8mp. It is almost as though they thought they could not come out with a perfect device, need to put one defect into this device so we can upgrade it easily in the near future.....

Thank you again guys. Pretty sure i end Q1 2012 with the GN

David
