GNex doesn't do multitasking either, for real

Ok the PlayBook can output a task to your TV in the background while you use the foreground. For example I can watch a full 1080p movie on my big screen tv that is running in the background of the PlayBook while I watch another movie on the PlayBook's screen. Or I can play games or do anything I want on the PlayBook screen while the movie plays on my TV.

That isn't multitasking? If that isn't multitasking than Android really don't have multitasking. We can go over the definition of real multitasking forever, but the fact remains that bbos and webos both do real/fake/whatever multitasking a lot better than Android can.

Can you interact with the video on the TV without switching out of what your doing on the playbook?

There is video controls in the top pannel. I never have to lose full focus of the foreground task.

Can you run a video in the background at all? Lol AT ALL? If you can't do it at all then how is this even a fair contest?

With the G-nex you can only output videos to the HDMI and yes you can do it while doing something else on the G-nex but you can't interact with the video without switching from what your doing. I still believe Android's version of Multitasking is better but that is just IMO.

You can play Angry birds on your device screen while you watch a movie on your TV? BOTH tasks with their own audio stream?

*edit

I ask because if that is possible with HDMI then it should be possible without it and I wish they would just let us do it. I don't care what anyone else does or needs, to me it is very useful to be able to leave videos playing in the background.

I don't know the example I witnessed didn't use anything that had sound on the G-nex and I don't have a OTG HDMI adapter to test it. Maybe someone else does and can test. But On my TF-101 with ICS it does.

Not a single point brought up makes any sense since Android's version of Multitasking works fine and better than any other mobile version if coded within the app correctly. Which is rarely the case in most apps atm. People keep stating case sties of an "app" not working but for some reason they say Android is at fault. The freaking function is there the morons coding their apps are at fault.

The problem I speak of is between the native ics browser and the native texting app or the native camera app. They are optimized for ics.

What do you mean not a single point makes no sense and obviously it isn't superior multitasking otherwise the last page I was on wouldn't have to reload. If you had a small data plan, just think how much extra kb it causes each time you reload. Now it's causing you money.

And like I said, other android phones don't have this problem on their native apps.

Not sure what you mean by native because with a CDMA phone the text app is not the same as the GSM version so not so native and the camera is another app not made or code my google but the makers of the camera. Apps that activate hardware are severely subject to the limitations of the device being activated not Android. I completely agree that Big Red's developers don't care much about how much data we waste reloading pages while browsering. I believe that is more by design than by bug. As in they are happy this happens because it makes profit so why change it. You are never going to get what you want till PROFIT is not any part of the equation. Till then its broke till you know how to fix it and that is why I use an Android Nexus.

Are you defending my point with this comment. Native means your phone was born with it. My phone was born with these apps. they are ics apps. Look on play, other android phones can download ics browser.

so if you're right, that's even worse and further proves my point. putting apps on your phone that don't multitask with each other but multitask on gsm phones is bad and doesn't make sense and they shouldn't continue to tout multitasking capability.

Most likely its es explorer not android. Don't blame android as a whole when their something an app that needs su access in order to work.

True.. to keep the process the app needs a string of code to do it. Haven't u noticed that some apps don't keep the process when the screen rotates? That's just a bug from the app...

I actually just tested the browser video player and chrome and stock both have a glitch which loses place when you leave... however this does not occur with apos like YouTube...

This indicates the Os is not at fault but some common apps have glitches

Maybe on your youtube just tried it (paused only to send a text) and not only did I lose my place but it didn't even go back to the video.

Oh well I'm glad it's even making a discussion, I've had several people tell me I don't know what I've been taking about all year long (not that that's not what going on here)

Well too bad your doesn't work because mind does. I can watch youtube then play an hour of Order & Chaos HD Online then go back to youtube right where I left off just fine.

Maybe the issue is more operator error? An Iphone might be more your speed?

that's about as sound logic as me saying, it's peoples fault for having signal loss or mic cut off. Or is that the part where I explain to people that the radio maker and the mic dealer didn't have Google in mind when they put it together and that somehow makes it better.

And then telling me I should get an iphone in this thread is what, an admission that it multitasks better? That switching between text and camera and apps is the fault of their individual manufactures. You even said they don't care about web and apps reloading, so if its not a problem for anyone, why that comment?

Anyway thanks for the informative posts because up until your posts despite searching and searching online, I didn't know why multitasking wasn't working well until you said about gsm and hardware companies.

Stock browser seems to have fixed the glitch with the video player

My Solution

Solution (almost perfect) Hi :)
I had the same problem with my galaxy nexus earlier but found a work around that works perfectly for my at least :-)
1. Go to developer options and scroll to the bottom.
Next you choose: limits for background apps (or something like that) and change the default off "standard limit" to Max 4. And now you should have true multitasking with the for latest apps you have used :-) hope it help
I had the same annoyance with the with the apps part of settings (used the settings widget) which would reopen in its default way Every Time! But not anymore :-)

Standard limit is over 5. How does reducing the limit help?

The one thing that the Pre couldn't do is tempt people to purchase it.

And it had horrible battery life. Yeah, that multitasking will do you a whole lot of good when the battery is dead after five hours.

When others with the same hardware cannot replicate the issue, then it is clear the issue lies with your phone, the apps you have installed, and how you use it. Those are the only variables, and they are the reason why your multitasking 'doesn't work'.
