Go from Note 5 to S7 Edge and wife from S6 to S7?? Better camera? Other questions...

Ok, instead of making a couple threads, one for my wife and one for myself, I figured I'd do it all in this thread.

I'm thinking about picking up an S7 edge to replace my Note 5. Driving factors, supposedly significant camera improvements (though some reviews say the camera is worse) due to faster aperture speed. Slightly better battery. Better processor.
The better camera, if for real, is a big selling point with two kids and a Disney trip upcoming, it means I won't necessarily have to use the SLR for every shot, though I'll still have it around much of the time.
I would consider a note 7 but I rarely use the Spen and don't care about the Iris scanning, finally, I see no real benefits to going to USB-C from micro USB especially since I'd have to buy all new adapters and my wife's phone would still be micro USB.

For the wife, she has an s6, which frankly has unbelievably bad battery life. She is a heavy user but that POS rarely comes off the charger. She uses the camera constantly with the kiddos and I think having a better camera would be a significant benefit to her as well. She would be going to the S7, not the edge, I'm 6'6 have big hands, love big phones. She's 5'4 and the S6 is about as big as she can effectively tolerate.

I've read mixed things on the camera, particularly that it falls apart even with minimal cropping, which is odd considering the sensor is supposed to be much better.

Finally, I want to try to find a sale/good deal on these phones, any ideas when we typically see them go on sale in the fall? Would I really miss the note going with the Edge? Would the edge get on my nerves with the "edge" of the phone?

I welcome any and all thoughts, thank you.

I have a s7 edge , came from s6 edge plus and I can say I love it. s7 edge better battery life. camera is very good especially in low light areas
sd card what can I say ? tried a note 5 don't blame you for getting a new phone but play with on and see if you like it thts all I can say. I played with one in England before it was released and I loved it

Ya, the 32gig limit on the S7 edge is a concern but its upgradable via memory card right?

Both great phones. The s7 is a tad smaller then the s6 and feels great in hand. The camera is great in both phones she won't notice much of a difference if any on the camera. Battery life night and day difference. My wife has the s7 and I had the s7 until recently getting the edge and she can make it a while day on battery and just like your wife constantly taking pictures of our daughter and family. So I'd go ahead and make the jump it's defiantly worth it on every level. ( About Disney world, my wife and I both recently took a trip to Disney world and brought our s7's the picture quality and video quality was awesome. Be sure to setup Google photos and you and the wife can make a shared album which is way cool and then you can share that album with family and friends as well if you'd like) I have somw really good videos of the fireworks and castle light show at night from magic kingdom

If the battery is a concern for your wife, then go with S7 Edge for both. I don't believe there's a significant difference in size, but the battery life difference is significant.

My wife and I both went with the S7 Edge and haven't looked back. She went with the gold variation and the pink Tech 21 wallet case. I went with silver, black Tech 21 case, and Spigen Crystal screen protector.

I came from Note 4 and LG V10...I'm done with "phablets".

Camera has been exceptional. I am also an DSLR user. While I don't believe phone cameras will ever truly compete with that quality, the photographs with our S7 Edge have been spot on. The videos are pretty amazing, and the slow motion is lots of fun.

UI is silky smooth and extremely responsive. First time I've kept TouchWiz as Launcher (had Nova and Google Now on other phones).

Extremely happy with our S7 Edge phones.

Why are you done with phablets?
S7 edge is unlikely for my wife, she doesn't like the size. We'll look at them for her though.

I always say if battery life is an issue go with the phone and get a mophie case... honestly i am a heavy user of my phones as well and equipped with a mophie case always allows the phone to last a day of use... easily.

I've never had issues with phones, but had terrible experiences with phablets (Note 4 and LG V10). I may just have been unlucky with phablets, but I'm sticking with what's been good for me.

If your wife can tolerate or get used to the size, the battery life difference between the S7 and S7 Edge is significant. I guess the question for would be: What's more of an inconvenience to her...the size of the phone or always being plugged in?

Agreed, but with the S7 already being 20% better than the S6, I'm not sure what she'll think...I'll ask her...

Actually the battery life isn't that much better then the s7. Remember the s7 edge has a larger display dlso it consumes more battery so in turn the extra 600milliamps are for the larger screen. Mine is about the same maybe a little better then my s7 was.i d say go with s7 for your wife. It's smaller then the s6 was with a larger battery and more energy efficient chipset.

I wouldn't upgrade from last years generation samsungs to this years for the camera alone. If its battery life you are after then the s7 edge is a big improvement over last years offerings from samsung but i cant speak for the normal S7 regarding battery life.
I had a LG G4 last year and I'm not too impressed with the s7 edge camera. Its very good in most situations but just slight bit of cropping and you lose alot of detail. I recently bought a sony RX100 and that is now my go to always on me camera. S7 edge is my backup camera now.

Both S7 variants will have a marked battery life improvement over her last phone.

I don't disagree with what anyone else has said so far. I have the S7E and have been very happy with battery life and the camera, by and large.

I do try and maximize battery life as much as I can by disabling stuff I don't want or need. I'm probably mopre aggressive with that than most people, so my battery life with the S7E is probably a bigger difference compared to an S7's. I have the Edge-y stuff turned off, etc. With that in mind, the S7E is definitly a better choice for battery life.

As for your question about the edges being a problem, I found that I have to have a case of some sort on the phone for both comfort and prevention of unintended edge touches. I'd say the ergonomics and related touchiness are my only quibble with the phone. I think for you with large hands, the same will probably be true. Historically, I like going without a case on my phone when at home. Can't with the S7E. The good news is the case solves the issue.

Good to know. I always have a case. Too many drops to not have one :)
