Going insane... Love my Note 5 and Love the Nexus 6p

I did drop it as you said, but I shouldn't have to, the N5 comes with 16:9 at 16MP, surley all camera's should all have their full resolution at 16:9.

Why? 16:9 is actually a seldom used ratio in digital photography. Most cameras are 4:3 or 3:2. The reason we have those 16:9 sensors is to have the stills fill the phone's screen.

My wife makes a bunch of prints and albums from our pictures and she ends up cropping a good chunk off her G4 pics since most all of the print sizes and album templates don't utilize 16:9.

I loved multi window and miss it regularly.
It is tempting to root my phone to get the functionality on here, but I don't want to risk it.
Hopefully it'll be available as a Developer Function with the next update

While not something that I used daily, it was nice to load a youtube video in one window and then use a separate window for IM, email, or browsing.
Or even reply to a text without having to close out of whatever else you might be doing.

It wasn't a daily user but I used it regularly enough that losing the feature kind of hurt.
I just don't know why it isn't standard in Developer Mode. I know it will not be as smooth due to resolution size and things like that, so I get not wanting it to be enabled unless you choose to, but I miss it and would appreciate having it

I'm frustrated with the glacial pace of security updates for my Verizon Galaxy Note 5 - the January 2016 security update is out, but my phone is still on the 11-1-2015 update. In addition, there is no Marshmallow on the horizon. I am tempted to purchase a Nexus 6P and sell the Note 5, but I'm wondering if timely software updates and Marshmallow warrant the inconvenience of spending the money, changing accessories and selling the Note 5. And is it pretty straightforward to make the 6p work with Verizon? I welcome your thoughts!

If you don't mind my asking, how did you sell yours? I'm mulling over the possibility of selling my Verizon Note 5 and purchasing the Nexus 6P while it's on sale at $50 off. I was planning to list the Note 5 on eBay.

I sell all my used devices on Swappa.

Thanks for the quick reply! If I take out the nano SIM card in my Note 5 to use it with the Nexus 6P, will I have to get a new one from Verizon before I can sell the phone? The conditions say that the device must be ready for activation. Also, I was hoping to use the proceeds from the sale to pay the balance on my device payment plan, but the terms say there can't be an outstanding carrier balance. I suppose if I pay the balance after the phone is sold, that won't be a problem by the time the buyer receives the phone.

Thanks for your advice!

I'm on Att and swap sims all the time without issue, can't really say for Verizon though. I always have my devices paid prior to selling to avoid any issues for the buyer. I understand the need to use sale proceeds to pay off a device though, you just don't want to leave the buyer hanging with a device they may not be able to activate.

I'm on Verizon, and while I would love to have a Nexus it's hard to justify paying full price for a Nexus. I got a 64gb Note 5 from Best Buy and got a free 32" Samsung LED TV a $200 BB gift card and $300 from Verizon for opening a new line of service. So it will wind up costing me about $120 total for the Note. But I love reading about the Nexus in case I decide to make a switch

You're like me... I have the best phone of my life right now (LG V10).... BUT I always read about other phones, lol.

Re: Torn between keeping my Note 5 or getting the Nexus 6p...any thoughts from those who've made the

I made the switch over a month ago and it's been great. Phone is smooth no stutters, battery life is much better and of course the updates are great. I've received 2 updates already and I've only had the phone a month. I never really used the stylus on the note 5 so I don't miss that either. The note 5 camera is faster and a little better . I wouldn't say way better but a tiny bit better. Maybe it's just the camera app in general that's better. But of course there's options for that. Overall much happier with the stock Android experience.

I've had a note 4 and a 6p and have had only Samsung's and nexus tablets. Finally got a nexus phone instead of the note 5 and personally if you like stock Android you will love the 6P. Speed wise about the same maybe a bit faster on the note 5 but overall smoothness the 6p never lags at all. Battery life I average about 6 hours screen on time by the 20-30 percent mark. Camera, similar but the note 5 has a small edge, in low light is where the 6P excels though compared to any other phone. I've used a sy edge+ and a note 5 and definitely prefer the 6p because of updates, stock Android and smoothness and battery life imo is better. I feel it's just the overall package and would definitely switch if money isn't a problem

Re: Torn between keeping my Note 5 or getting the Nexus 6p...any thoughts from those who've made the

I just made the switch this week. I was frustrated with the slow pace of updates - my Verizon Note 5 was still on the November security update with the January update already out on the street, and it's been months since Android 6 (Marshmallow) has been out, and my Note 5 was still on 5.1.1. The $50 off of the Nexus 6P in matte gold made it a make-or-break decision time for me, and I decided to take the risk.

First of all, I can tell you that it works on the Verizon network just fine. I don't know who your carrier is, but I removed the nano SIM card from the Note 5, put it into the Nexus 6P, and turned on the phone, and it connected immediately to the Verizon network. The setup prompts helped me to transfer my apps and settings from the Note 5 to the Nexus 6P automatically, which was a great time saver. I thought I'd have to reload the apps manually. I've spent the rest of the evening tweaking my setup - relogging into apps, setting up my Outlook email accounts again, and so on - but that's helped me to get familiar with the phone. The volume rocker button is on the right middle edge, just below the power button, as opposed to the upper left edge on the Note 5. The hardware home button at the bottom of the Note 5 is replaced by a touchscreen button on the Nexus 6P, which is not a big deal for me, but the back button is to the left of the home button rather than the right, so that took some getting used to. The Nexus 6P is quick and smooth in operation, and it looks like eliminating the Samsung and Verizon bloatware gave me about a gigabyte of space I didn't have before. The fingerprint scanner is on the back of the phone, which was also an adjustment, but after using it, it makes sense to use your index fingers to tap the scanner and unlock the phone. The fingerprint scanner works very well, better than the Note 5's scanner in my opinion. Most importantly, I'm running Android 6.0.1 and the January 16, 2016 security update. It's nice to have the latest software and security updates on my phone.

The next step is to sell my Note 5; I already have it listed on Swappa, and I'm throwing in a bunch of accessories to defray that cost. Speaking of accessories, you will need a couple of compatible wall chargers for the Nexus 6P, since it uses a USB Type-C port. It comes with one wall charger, but I like to have one in my office at work and one downstairs in the basement where I watch TV. The fast-charging technology for the Nexus 6P isn't the same as the technology Samsung uses, so you'll need different charging hardware, although a Samsung charger and cord will work if you buy a micro USB-to-USB Type-C adapter. I bought an Otium 2-pack for $9.99 at Amazon.com. You won't get fast-charging speeds, but it will tide you over until you're able to replace the chargers. I bought two Nexus 6P compatible chargers directly from the Google Store since I'd read stories about problems with third-party chargers and cords. That set me back about $50. I bought a shell case/holster combo with a kickstand, but cases are a personal preference. You can choose whatever case works for you.

I hope this is the kind of information you're looking for. Good luck with your decision!

The nano SIM card from Verizon worked just fine in the Nexus 6P. I was up and running on the Verizon network almost immediately. I requested a new nano SIM for the Note 5 from Verizon, and I'll stick it in the phone so a buyer can activate it on the Verizon network. I also paid off the balance on the device, and I'll just replenish my savings with the proceeds from the sale.

Thank you for your advice! I'm enjoying the Nexus 6P thus far, and I have Marshmallow 6.0.1 and the January security update on my phone. I love being up to date on the OS and the security software.

I've owned both the Nexus 6p and currently own a Note 5. To me the Note 5 is overall, the better of the two devices.

The 6P is a nice device but for me, it just didn't have that "Wow" factor. Sure it has stock android, sure it has Google Tap, Aluminum Body etc. But nothing that actually made it stand out.

That's where in my opinion the Note 5 stood out. The screen on the Note 5 is better, the camera is better with a tone of features, wireless charging, multi-window, S-Pen, Customization Features, Micro USB Chargers ( The USB C Chargers on the 6p is good. It's just that it's hard to find extra USB C Chargers locally at this point because they're too new ), Note 5 holds resale value better than 6P,

Re: Torn between keeping my Note 5 or getting the Nexus 6p...any thoughts from those who've made the

Fantastic response! Great information and extremely helpful! Have you experience any of the Wi-Fi/LTE/Bluetooth issues that people have been experiencing? That could be a deal breaker for me, as I use Bluetooth for music streaming and phone calls in my car everyday, and of course Wi-Fi and LTE connectivity are most important.

I haven't had it long enough to ascertain whether or not these are problem areas. I've successfully paired my Plantronics Bluetooth earpiece and the Bluetooth receiver in my wife's Nissan Rogue, and I've been able to connect to the Wi-Fi network at home and at church. My LTE indicator is active, but I haven't actually received any calls yet in order to assess vocal quality. As of right now, however, everything seems to be working!

I have both a Note 5 on ATT and a 6P which I use on Project Fi. I think the Note is a bit faster and the screen is better, but the Note is still on the Oct. 1 security update. I am just tired if the big carriers and decided to give Fi a try. So far I'm loving Fi and the cheaper bills are enough to keep me from going anywhere else. I really do miss Samsung Pay but not enough to spend an extra $90 a month (both myself and my wife).

I do like the 6P quite a bit, the lack of bloat is seriously refreshing and I could live with either the Note or the 6P but the combination of the Nexus along with Project Fi has turned into a winning combination here.

Keep the Note 5. I took a bunch of pictures last night at a party in a dimly lit room and the 6P's camera didn't take very good photos. You can tell there's no OIS in the phone. My S6 active took better pics.

I am going to return my 6P. I can handle the lack of software updates on my S6 active if it means I'll get decent low-light photos.

Well its been a month and a half since I ditched my Note 5 for the 6p. I've had a great experience. I will never go back to an OEM Android phone. It has been so much smoother and faster than my Note. Camera has been great and battery life has been excellent. Much cleaner UI and not a stutter. Extremely pleased.

FYI, you don't have to provide a Verizon SIM. Phone just needs to be able for the buyer to put in a SIM and use on the network. It's nice you included it but not required.

It has been a week since I made the switch from the Note 5 to the Nexus 6P, and I can add to the timely updates, fast performance and clean UI the additional pluses of better battery life, a great fingerprint scanner, and MUCH faster charging using Google USB Type-C chargers and cables. Given what I've read about the varying quality of cables and chargers, I've limited my accessory purchases to the Google Store for assurance. It costs a little more, but it's not as expensive as replacing a fried Nexus 6P! :) I'm still very happy I made the switch!
