Going to iPhone6?

Kinda, yeah. Because the 5S was the best iOS phone available at the time.

The Nexus 5 is definitely not the best Android phone hardware-wise.

What should the iPhone 6 be compared to then?

Why shouldn't it be comparable? The Nexus 5 is still the current flagship for Nexus devices, no matter how old it is. Tech is changing quickly but a year shouldn't be THAT much difference.
But it does. A year is an eternity in the cell phone world.

The iPhone is still keeping up, just.
For a phone that has had 12 months additional development time and costs twice as much...I think "barely keeping up" is unacceptable.

iOS is also doing less...there is less burden on the hardware.

How does the iPhone compare to other flagships? We've seen the M8 and the S5, probably two of the most popular, and it beats them.

Well, Macworld seems to think the G3 is better than the iPhone 6.

“the LG G3 is the best handset on the market right now. It matches or bests the iPhone 6 in all quantifiable metrics.”

iPhone 6 vs LG G3 smartphone comparison - Review - Macworld UK

Thats from an Apple website.

What should the iPhone 6 be compared to then?

I was gonna say the G3, but, you know...

Who here denied Android has more features than iOS? I use both and know Android has more features and capabilities than iOS but I also like the more polished apps and reliability of iOS.

The reviewer on Droid Life didn't seem that impressed with iOS apps.

Apple bloggers will tell you all day, every day that the Appstore is far superior to Google Play. Is it? I haven’t seen anything in the past two weeks to prove that point. For one, the app selection is almost identical these days. Apple enthusiasts will tell you different, of course, but as of right now, I have two apps on my iPhone 6 that aren’t available on Android: Instagram’s Hyperlapse and Tiny Wings (because Tim made me). No other apps that are iOS exclusives have found their way on to my phone, because I’m not sure that many exist.

And here is problem two, when you talk about iOS and apps – the Appstore is a disaster. I talked about this the other night on the DL Show, but try searching for something like “best Twitter app” on both the Appstore and Google Play. On the Apple Appstore, you get Tweetbot as the top result, which is actually a popular Twitter app, but that’s the only one. The rest of the listings (in order) are an image framing app for Instagram, a game that looks like a kid’s Park Tycoon knock-off, an emoji app, another Instagram photo FX app, and a VPN service. Seriously, those are your options when searching for “best Twitter app.” Google Play, on the other hand, gives me more Twitter apps than I can even count.

It doesn’t stop there. The top charts section, I have been told by iOS users, isn’t worth looking at because it is easily manipulated. I was also told that the featured app collections on the main Appstore page are worth looking at, but Apple only updates those on Thursdays or something like that. There is an explore section, which in theory could be useful, except there are so many categories and sub-categories that it might take you hours to find a new app that is worth installing.

As someone who uses both platforms, I can tell you that I see the difference. Obviously it won't matter for everyone. The only thing I agree with is searching. The App Store is stupid XD

Would you he able to name flagship Android devices that would keep up to the Nexus 5 in that test? Or are they all unacceptable too?

The G3 is great. But what those guys were emphasising was that the G3 matches and/or the iPhone in most measurable regards. Not really that you should get own over an iPhone. And again, that's just one site. I can find you plenty saying the opposite. Being "an Apple website" doesn't mean much, especially being computer oriented.

You were gonna say the G3 but what??

You'd have to ask him.

For me, I'd rather have a Nexus because I hate LG's skin, and because LG takes forever to update. But the G3 has better hardware in every way...the only way the Nexus is better is the UI speed. I would definitely take the G3 over any iPhone...even Android crippled by a crappy skin is better than iOS IMO.

Which is the relevant part of the argument IMO...the rest is subjective. You might be ok trading away functionality for the Appstore, but I don't think most people would.

And again, that's just one site.
...an APPLE site. Thats a big deal IMO. These are Apple fans who are saying this.

If that's the only way that the Nexus is better, why is it such a big deal when comparing it to the iPhone? There are newer Android phones that wouldn't match the Nexus 5 in this test. Are they just as unacceptable?

I have to agree. As they were saying, the choice between the G3 and iPhone is more of a choice between an Android experience or an iOS experience. The fact that they're a site based around certain Apple products is not necessarily as big a deal as you're making it out to be. I know plenty of people who are fans of Macs, yet prefer/choose to carry an Android device. Owning an Apple computer might say nothing about what they use as a phone. The fact that they like the G3 doesn't mean much.

I disagree. Having been on many Apple sites, the one thing they share in common is their fanaticism toward apple.

Look at these threads...you see the people on here defending Apple? The reverse is not tolerated on Apple sites. Consistent criticism of Apple on an apple site will get you attacked at best, and more likely banned eventually.

So yes, when an Apple site openly says a competing product is better, it's unusual. It means they think the product is so obviously better that there is no way to put a spin on it that makes Apple look better.

I know plenty of people who are fans of Macs, yet prefer/choose to carry an Android device.
Well, I am guessing they don't run tech websites. I'm not making a claim about all Apple users...just the ones on tech sites.

I am guessing you do not EXCLUSIVELY criticize Apple.

Try not balancing your criticisms with praise and watch what happens.

I also applaud them where I see they did good. Can't just look into negatives into every product IMO.

iOS is just one of 3 real smartphone platforms. There are good and bad things about all 3 of those platforms. TBH, only 2 of the platforms are mature enough to meet my needs, Android and iOS. There are those that just stay with Apple because it's the simple thing to do. Their disdain for change is only hurting them, IMO.

Lol...iMore. In fact, forums. On here, some people probably think I sound like an Apple fanboy. On iMore, they probably think I'm an Android fanboy.

Without wanting to generalise, I have to say that, from my personal observation, us Android users are definitely kinder to, or more open to the other side.

You've definitely gotta be careful if you want to criticise Apple over there...

*gulp* My iPhone 6 might arrive tomorrow. I'd better start preparing to switch over! I want to transfer my SMS's and stuff. I need to look into it.

I find the opposite to be true. I've been relentlessly attacked by people IRL for choosing the 6+

Sorry, I meant online. IRL, I have already received as much criticism over my iPhone, which I don't even have yet, then I did the whole time with my One.

I signed up to MR to discuss the new iPhone 6 and was banned permanently within the week for daring to challenge the utter nonsense posted. The bendgate threads and any threads criticising Apple are quite funny to read given the utter ferocity that the members defend Apple with .

Its insane lol

I think android users are much more pragmatic in that they seem to focus on the overall experience of a smartphone, rather than just the IPhone-at-any-price attitudes of IOS users.

Uh huh

I am getting less impressed by the iPhone 6 by the day. This phone is a year older than the Nexus...this should not even be comparable, nevermind the nexus beating it. The fact that the Nexus 5 is no longer competing with the 5S (now it's competing with the 6) at all says a lot.

I am coming to the conclusion that spec-wise, phones are reaching a point of diminishing returns (for normal users anyway)
My M7 is just as snappy and quick as it was since i bought it and the releases of Android (Kit kat/Jelly Bean) only seem to improve it. This is in the direct opposite direction to IOS updates which seem to slow iphones down quite a bit (This was the reason i left Apple, i got fed up of my phone being crippled by heavy IOS updates just in time for the next release of the latest iphone.....)

I'm seriously considering something mid-tier on my next phone. I don't run power hungry games or do rocket science with it, i just message a bit, use the phone and mostly surf with the odd puzzle game.

I don't actually need anything better than my M7 and i don't see that changing much.
