Good bye Rezound.....I shall miss you

I used Friendcaster for a while. It's a pretty good app. Pretty solid. I may start it up again if FB starts getting "wonky". (It seems that official FB app dies every other week.)

I feel you on the extended battery on the Rezound. I had it myself. I can't believe how light the Maxx is and has MORE battery. It's mind boggling. Listen to Dovahkiin, he speaks the truth. There are LOTS of threads all over the net about rooting the Rezound and getting MUCH better battery life. I never did it because I'm a big chicken. I'm a hardware guy, software confuses me. (I'm a hardware engineer by trade)

Yesterday with a full charge, I got a feel of how the phone will work. I left all my background syncing on. I have 4 email addresses, Facebook, and a few other things running. Played games about 30min. Streamed some music. Listened to music off the SD card. Watched about 45min of YouTube. 17hrs 58mins and I still had 28% battery. Phone never got hot. Even when playing games, the temp never crossed over 101F according to the battery indicator app.

Dovahkiin got me sorted out with the Quickpic app and now I'm loving it. There's some differences but nothing really major. After using the Maxx and the Rezound, if I had to choose again, I'd still be on the fence on which to get. I think they are both easily the best phone at Verizon right now. (I'm just not impressed by the Galaxy 3)

If I was some sort of engineering genius, I would create a Frankenstein phone out of the Maxx and toss in the Rezound's screen and camera. I'd also toss in an S4 on that sucker and ROM it with stock ICS/Jelly Bean. Lastly, I'd strip that friggin' Verizon logo off. It's 2012, do we really need this crap? Like when dealerships put a decal or whatever on a used car. I always tell them to peel that off without scratching it before I buy. Anyway, perfect dream phone right there.
But back in reality, I'm with you. I'd feel on the fence if they both released together.

I did actually tune the antennas on my old Motorolla a630 and my Blackberry. I've dealt with RF for over 20years. Amazing what fun you can have with a Spectrum Analyzer and Network analyzer. Truth though, the antennas are pretty well tuned. I just added some stub tuning to change the patterns a bit. At the time I wasn't working where I had access to a anechoic chamber and software though. I kinda spitballed it. I DO NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE TAKING APART THEIR PHONE AND PLAYING WITH THEIR ANTENNAS! (thought I should put that out) :D

So, my first day impression with the Maxx. (If anyone reads this.)

It's a pretty slick phone. I can see pros and cons comparing it to my Rezound. Mostly, I think it's a Moto vs. HTC Sense thing tho. The one BIG difference I saw in the phone is the boot time. Good GOD! It boots up from completely powered off in <60 seconds. The fastest my Rezound ever booted was like 4 minutes. I don't really consider it a pro or con though because, honestly, how often do you need to completely shut down and come back on.

There is a little lag when rotating the screen but honestly that is about the only difference I could really tell. Web pages seem to load faster. The radios DEFINITELY don't have as good of reception as the Rezound but strangely enough, it works BETTER in my apartment than the Rezound did. (We compared it to my fiance's Rezound. She still has to go outside for calls but the Maxx is just fine.)

I already miss the HTC Sense Facebook thing because it added some nice features to the "People" app. I absolutely HATE the way the gallery works on the Maxx. The camera is not as good but takes pretty decent photos. The video seems to work really well. Overall, it's a really nice phone. It fits well in my hand, feels light. It's DEFINITELY much lighter than my Rezound was with the extended battery yet has more battery than it did.

The battery is easily "as advertised" on the Maxx. I got the phone with 60% charge on it. I spent 7hrs 50min setting up things, poking around, downloading all my apps, setting up my emails, etc, etc and still had 22% battery. Today we have a full charge and I'll be using it fairly heavy so we'll see. I watched the temps carefully as I was messing around with it. When I put it on the charger, I started streaming videos. Temp never got over 101F. I'm impressed.

Not saying it's better than the Rezound or anything. Not the point of my posting this. It's a pretty neat phone with some cool features. Looks like I have a lot to learn about it and I'll probably have ICS by the time I get it all figured out and have to learn more. XD

Thanks to all the Rezound gurus here. I've been on Android Central since my EVO and all the forums are pretty good but I think the EVO 3D crowd and the Rezound crowd were the best people I ever read. Very helpful and friendly.

4 minute boot time?!?!?

You sure it wasn't a Blackberry? LOL

Did your maxx come with ics, just wondering since u got it so close the ota

@ Cube_top - cheers on your new phone, seems like you are liking it. I opted against the Moto because it felt damn odd in my hands -- too angular. Definitely have go go with the phone that works for your --- if I had to run outside to get a signal, you'd better believe that phone would be out of my life the next day.

Believe me, if the second or third replacement Rezound had worked, I would have been fine. The "can't get signal" in the apartment IS a bit annoying but we learned to live with it. We are in the back of the building on the bottom and there is woods behind us so I understand. The Maxx has had any issues yet.

The only way the Moto feels sort of odd actually is that every time I go to pick it up, I expect it to be heavier and it's not. It's a little wide but it fits my hand pretty well. I still grab my fiance's Rezound and poke around with it. She loves my Maxx now especially after looking at the battery life. I'm at 11hrs 10min off charger and at 55%. It's pretty unbelievable.

Welp, I discovered I had an additional upgrade on July 9. They let me use it early. Ordered the Razr Maxx. They're overnighting it. Will be here within 12 hours :D

Yaaay! Wonder if it will come loaded with ICS?

I won't miss my resound I hate HTC and it hated that phone. I am now waiting for my amazing galaxy s3. I really hate sense and that put a horrible taste in my mouth... I personally like motorala ui it feels more like natural android. I am exited to finally try out Samsung

A phone from 2011...pre-loaded with ICS? AH HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Is the follow up to that joke about Jelly Bean coming in 6 months?
No but seriously, Razr hasn't gotten ICS yet. There's 1 out of every 100 people that claim it was pushed to them, but it's not available for pull. If they're rolling it out, then they must be using Atari and Sega Genesis hardware.

You won't have ICS on it but SUPPOSEDLY it will be available for the "pull" OTA on Saturday. (I'd take that with a grain of salt though, you know how internet rumors are.)

The BIGGEST confusion you may have, at least it's the biggest one for me, is that the "Home" and "List" button on the bottom are swapped. I keep hitting Home by mistake. LOL! XD I'm getting used to it though. Enjoy the battery life. Last night was a late night. I was over 18 hours plenty of pictures taken at a car show I took my Vette to. Had 30% battery when I got home.

I'm running ICS on my Maxx. Came OTA Saturday around 7pm. Pretty nifty!

Yep, woke up at 6:30 and checked for update and it was there. No problems. Installed smoothly. Getting used to it but it is pretty slick. Little quicker in some areas. Battery life about the same or possibly dropped a tiny bit. (hard to tell as yesterday was not a "normal" use type day.)
