Good launcher App other than Nova Launcher?

I didn't even know that it only worked on the paid version because I have had the paid version for so long since it gives so many options that are well worth a couple of bucks that it costs. Nova Launcher without the premium access is nothing in comparison to the amazing features you get when you go premium.

Actually the paid version doesn't quite do it. Read post above yours.

The current free version didnt allow me to tap on anything. The only option to power on from a locked screen was using the power button. Thats how I found out the only way to do it was to pay extra.

Actually if you pay for Nova it allows you to double tap to lock screen only.

The free one allows you to double tap the notification bar to lock and double tap the main screen to unlock.

Apex launcher works the same way.

Good luck finding a launcher that doesn't change some aspect of your current functionality.

That's very strange. A launcher has control over your home screens and the app drawer, nothing more than that, and the lock screen is out of its limits. Using Nova or the stock launcher shouldn't make a difference on how the lock screen behaves. The knock on code should work as expected.

The knock on code is part of the stock launcher and has control because it's active.

Check gestures and inputs settings.... Double tap

Ransomware as define by Kaspersky: Ransomware is a type of malware that severely restricts access to a computer, device or file until a ransom is paid by the user.

Somewhat paraphrased by PCMag: Virus software that blackmails users by encrypting their hard drives or locking them out of the computer. It then demands payment to restore it.

Your access isn't restricted, or encrypted. Really, the knock knock feature is a signed feature by LG that is mimicked by other programs. This isn't too dissimilar from not being able to use some Samsung widgets while using Nova.

As of right now, there are two choices; pay the upgraded version of Nova, or, use LG's stock launcher. To a degree, Yoda said it best; 'Do or do not'.

To reiterate, you can get Google Play rewards app and build enough credit to have Google pay Nova's Prime app for you.

Maybe I didn't explain myself clearly. By Knock ON I mean the double tap on the lock screen (to wake the phone) and Nova shouldn't interfere with this feature. Knock OFF is a completely different thing since it's done from your home screen, controlled by the launcher (stock or custom).

There are different ways to Lock/Screen off your phone with Nova, as stated previously.

- Double tap the status bar. Nova doesn't control the status bar (only to hide it) so the stock LG feature still works.

- Nova free. You need an app like Screen off & lock and create a widget. Using this method the phone will lock, overriding your security/smart lock settings and FPS won't be enough to wake it up. If you don't want to use this method you can uncheck Nova as Device Administrator.

- Nova Prime. You can create a widget or set a gesture to lock/screen off the phone. And now things get a bit more complicated :) The latest Nova prime update included a new option (see screenshot), where you can decide which kind of screen lock method you prefer. If you use the FPS to unlock the phone the obvious choice is 'Timeout'.

There are mixed reports about this method but it seems quite stable. I'm not sure if things are different with the G6, though.

Your response is right on target. Of course Nova is not ransom ware. As with any free vs paid app If I don't like what an app does or doesn't do its my choice to delete or purchase.

Ok, I will give it another shot and see if I missed that setting or something else. I did like how it was working out up till that point.

By the way, Im no the only one complaining about this. A short look through the feedback in the Play Store will get you a hand full of similar complaints.

With any LG phone that has double tap...

If you add a third party launcher you can still double tap on and double tap off. Tap off has to be done on the notification bar unless added by the developers.

Launchers are alternates to the manufacturer's offerings and they all have +/- all we have to do is decide which ones work best for us.

Myself I like Adw launcher even though it's long since left behind by it's developers. It just works for me.

I use Buzz Launcher. It's completely free and extremly customizable. I used to use Themer, but it's no longer under development, and lacks many features that Buzz Launcher has.

By the way it most certainly is a ransom when someone takes something away and demands $$ to give it back.
Dude. They can't take away something you never had in the first place.
Apparently you have no idea of the economics of writing software.
Pay for it and stop whining.

The Play Store is filled with bad reviews from people complaining about paying for software they use. And I'd be a happy man if each and every one of those reviews were removed. It's one of the single most aggravating things that the developers deal with every day (I know a few). They put hours upon hours of work into these apps and tools and make them available for the world to use. Monetizing certain features is a way for them to recoup their costs.

A dev has to make money -- otherwise why develop things? Especially a launcher as popular as Nova? I would suggest just buying it if you really like (which it sounds like you do) or you can wait for it to go on sale (it does a lot for $0.99). I see zero issue an awesome app (like Nova) charging for a few features to make some money for their time.

I'm trying to understand your logic. If I took my time to develop an app and gave it a high level of functionality for free, but left advanced features reserved for those who want to unlock a premium version of it by paying, so I could make a profit (yes I would want to make money), explain how this is unreasonable.

You can still double-tap on the notification bar to lock the phone.

It is not ransomware because ransomware is a piece of malicious software that completely disables access to your device until you pay up (usually an exorbitant amount).

I have Nova Prime and I absolutely do not regret ever buying it. Kevin (the developer) has put a lot of work and soul into his launcher, and it definitely shows.

You can definitely find some free alternatives, but I dislike them either because they're filled with useless features, crammed with ads or just really unappealing in general. Chris's Action 3 and Kevin's Nova are the 2 launchers I use often, especially the latter. Nova Prime is just one of those apps where you really do want to support the developer because it is really that good.

As for Play Store reviews, I have never cared about them. I often find them either too dumb or too silly. Complaining that the developer is charging extra for features even though he charges a measly dollar quite often in sales? That's just plain stupid.

I can understand if it's like $10, but $1? Come on......

Yes, there are a couple billion of people using Android now, and a lot of them are incredibly stupid. People leave bad reviews for inappropriate reasons all the time. Mostly it's just a reflection of how much those people suck as human beings, rather than a reflection on the app itself. Most users don't review apps, Nova has 240k reviews out of 1-5 million installs, so somewhere between 5%-25% of people reviewed it - luckily most of them aren't as dumb as the worst of the worst and so they've managed to maintain 4.8/5 stars, which is incredibly good. It's well deserved, this is one of the best apps on the market and has been for a very long time.
