good signal, but no data connection

Ok, so VZW spent months telling me what a piece of crap my Blackberry was, and how awesome the Droid is. Why then does this thing not work right?

I have plenty of signal strength, and no data connection. Rebooted, cleared cache, checked all connection settings, blah blah blah and all is correct. Why then is there no data connection, no web browsing, no android market, ...nothing.

Any suggestions?

Try this thread.

I had the same issue, and the instructions in post 43 worked for me. Do note my comment in post 51 that you must hit menu and commit changes for the change to stick.

Ok, thanks, seems to have worked at this point. I at least have a data connection. We'll see how long it lasts this time.

BTW, would have been nice if that thread showed up in the search. The title seems like it would have.

my internet is down at this time too. Gtalk wouldn't connect for the last half hour. So I finally tried internet, and nothing.
I am in Philadelphia

Was happening for last evening and part of the morning in Detroit as well. I think most of this has to do with network problems rather than the phones themselves.

Pretty much make sure your battery cover is snapped on good and tight.

My local VZW rep was a ding bat! Not only did she hold the volume up and push power and keep booting into recovery, which she had absolutely no Idea why it was happening. After I explain it to her, she then had no Idea why she was not getting a data signal with the cover off! Dumb, I had to argue her and her co-worker the antenna is built into the battery cover door, she went to get the manager to prove me wrong, egg in your face lady!

Those gold tabs need to touch for you to get a data signal, if i may suggest, if someone is a hard time, I recommend a thin smearing of dielectric grease to secure a better connection and prevent any possible corrosion.

Take your TB and do this

* dial ##778
* select EDIT
* password is 000000 (six 0's)
* go to modem settings
* change Rev.A to ENABLE
* Menu Button Commit Changes
* reboot

has to do with the 3G network the TB is using. Don't know the details, but it's different than the normal 3G, and the phone has a hard time getting on it if losing 4G coverage is the gist of it. This setting will send it to the old 3G, and is supposed to still hit the 4G just fine. Give it a few days, maybe VZW fixes it, and set it back to normal.

I did the ##778 recommendation and still can't get a signal, any ideas? It was working fine a fee days ago, and it worked briefly yesterday. Now the settings screen says the mobile network is on, but I have no connection.

See my above post, I had that prob the day I got my phone, not anymore and I get hella good signal. I get 4bars in places my eris gets two.
